Default Housing in Portland for my mentally ill son and I.

Hello beautiful people!
Approx. 7.5 years ago my son committed an Assault in the beginning stages of juvenile schizophrenia. He got put into prison under Oregon's Measure 11, Mandatory sentencing. He has been over-medicated, tazed, kicked around by guards and isolated repeatedly. Needless to say, he is quite a mess. The prison administrators have changed the story at the last minute on the county he is being released in, which has sent me scrambling to find housing in Portland's, Mutnohmah County. He is getting out in August of this year. I am trying to keep him out of the psychiatric housing system where he may exposed to more abuse and over-drugging. Does anyone have any ideas about where we can go to live together? I am on Social Security/limited income and he will be.

Thank you so much!
Teresa

Hello & welcome to PTO I've moved your thread to the Oregon forum in hopes that our Oregon members will have a idea for housing. I hope you are able to locate something before August!! Good Luck...and congrats on your son's Homecoming!

I'd recommend calling Multnomah County's Mental Health Services and explaining the situation to them. They may not be able to help, but they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Here's a link to their website: https://multco.us/mhas/mental-health-services

That's where I'd start if I were in your position. Thankfully, Multnomah County still funds their mental health services reasonably well (at least in comparison to other counties in Oregon)

You can google transitions projects or tpi Portland Oregon it is a great resource for people transitioning out of the prisons. They may not be the exact resource you need but they should be able to direct you to the resource you need. Good luck!!! And hang in there transitioning is not easy for them or us!
