I think it might vary from people to people, some people I have known had no problems.

Thank you for your response LonnieLewis. I sent in the letter to the chaplain in December of 2015 and the process was smooth. We were married on April 29th, 2016 at Okeechobee Correctional Institution.

It's an "old" thread but I had no problem being approved either. But contrary to HisChevyBabe's approval mine was only valid for a year. As always everything will depend on the facility...

I noticed you asked this question a few months ago but the process first starts with him sending a request to his chaplain stating that you two desire to get married. From there, they will send him a list of steps that need to be taken to obtain approval from the warden, state, etc. He'll send you a copy of that list so you can also keep track of what needs to get done. It's pretty clear cut. Anywho, congrats and I hope that helped you! :-)

Default Which is less complicated: Jail or prison marriage in Florida?

Which might be less complicated if that's even possible? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Most county facilities do not allow weddings whereas most prisons do. There are exceptions to the prison wedding thing state-to-state, such as South Carolina, that do not allow prison weddings. What state are you asking about?

In my opinion, I think it's way easier to do so in prison because you get a list of procedures that are relatively easy to follow. And you can get most things done by yourself except the need to coordinate the ceremony day with the prison chaplain. Whereas in the county (as far as Broward) there is so much red tape involved and the list of procedures requires the need of counsel and them having to put in a motion for a court order and all. It can get pretty pricy but the funny part about it was the lawyers that were charging me a grand or two had never really done it before. The experience really discouraged me from getting married while he's in the county. And from reading the list, I had the impression that he would be shackled and I most likely wouldn't even get to kiss him and I wasn't going for that.

Hi ladies,

So my fiancé is at the Santa Rosa CI annex/work camp. Has anyone been married there? I'm wondering if we could marry on a Sunday? And how much you had to spend? Where did you get your marriage license approved without him? And about how long the process took?
We were already getting married on 7/1/17, but unfortunately he got locked up😭 I am also wondering if you get any extra time with him on the wedding day? And who did you ladies use to marry you in the prison?
Any info greatly appreciated 😍

Hi, my husband and I married on 1/7/17. The state stopped accepting marriage license applications for inmates on 12/30/16. Unless something changed I don't think FL Doc is allowing new inmate marriages. We were told we were allowed to marry because we had our license before 2017 and we were one of the last.

Thanks for the info, this is driving me crazy. He was given the packet to mail to me, so why would they give him that and give us false hope if we are unable to get a license? So frustrating!
Congrats on your wedding 🙂 Happy that you were able to marry your sweetheart ❤️

How long was the process for you and did you pick your date?

Can you tell me where you got your marriage license from without him being present?

He started paperwork in July when he got to his permanent work camp. We were approved in early December. We wanted to get married Christmas Eve but the chaplain said no because one of the chaplains has to be there, even though the whole process took less than a hour and the chaplain would have been home by 8:30 am
We took the next date they would approve which was January 7th. By the end of March he was in work release and we got our first furlough! Praise God!

If they gave you paperwork I'd say go ahead with it, it's worth a try. We are so glad we didn't wait because we'll have had 7 months of furloughs at home, just us, by the time he is done. As his wife I can sponsor him. Girlfriends can't sponsor furloughs...

My fiance is at cfrc-east. He put for us to get married 2 weeks ago. He got the approval. Now we have to wait 6-8 weeks for the date. I'm so happy.

That means that he requested approval for them to get married.

It doesn't work that way Patchouli....that is why I asked.

1) inmate submit request for the marriage packet from Chaplin.

2) Chaplin sends marriage request packet to inmate.

3) Inmate signs the request to marry form, mail it to fiance to also sign.

4) Fiance mailed request form back to Chaplin with both signatures.

5) Chaplin then forward forms to security for background check on fiance and to Psychology to schedule appointment with inmate for evaluation.

6) Once security check and pych eval clears forms are sent back to Chaplin.

7) Chaplin then forwards clearance documents and request to marry form to Warden for approval/denial.

8) If approved, fiance then applies for marriage licence in county that allows absentee applicants to file...

9) Once marriage license is obtain, then Chaplin schedules wedding date.

1 through 8 can not happen in 2 weeks.

Hince, my question for clarification as we a going through step 5....it has already been 3 weeks and still waiting on response from security and his psych eval.

I thought 2 weeks was too quick....we have members that have been through / are going through the process and sometimes it takes months (for whatever reason).

I "assumed" the packet was done and they were waiting for a date.

I didn't know that a
security check and pych eval was done or that the Chaplain was as involved in the process.

My fiance is in Santa Rosa County Jail and we are wanting to get married. I am not sure where to start other than the letters. Is there a packet that we can get?

Smile I’m getting married! You can too!

I just wanted to clear things up. You CAN still get married while in prison in Florida. My fiancé and I applied the first week of August and I was emailed the approval today (12/4/17). Brevard County Clerk gives out the license without your spouse being there. However, you have to have him sign it and get it notarized and bring it back along with a copy of his FDOC badge. The cost is $86. Plus you have to find someone to perform the ceremony for you because the prison chaplian can not do it. I hope this helps.
