Default State prison visiting procedures

My boyfriends brother is going to be moved from Monroe county in PA to Graterford and then maybe to Camp Hill before going to his permanent residency (according to his Dad, so Iím not sure how accurate that is) so i was just wondering if anyone knew the visiting procedures and dress code, etc? Do i have to fill out a visitor application and such?? The county jail heís in now is SO laid back i could just walk in on visitation day, hand them my license, sign in and that was it, i didnít have to fill out any forms prior.

Once he leaves Monroe Cty jail he will be in the custody of the PA DOC which is totally separate from the county systems.

Yes, he will go to Graterford for processing and then to Camp Hill for classification where they will then determine his "home prison".

You can not just walk in off the street to visit him at any of the facilities in the PA DOC. He must first place you on a visitor list that he gives to his counselor. The names on the list are then checked and then approved or denied and returned back to him after the process which can take a few weeks.

If you are approved you need to follow the visiting rules for the particular facility that he is at when you visit him. All the facilities are listed on the PA DOC website with their visiting days and hours. Dress codes are normally standard with all the facilities but the hours and days may differ so best to double check before going especially if you have a long trip.

You may not get to see him for quite some time at first during his processing and classification. You should stay in contact with him via email or snail-mail. He will be able to make phone calls but not right away. Processing and classification process take months sometimes and the calling out and emailing is usually limited at first until he gets to his home prison. Once at his home prison things loosen up a bit more and visiting is easier at that point.

Again, don't just go and try and visit him until he informs you that you have been approved on his visitor's list or you will just be turned away; there are no exceptions to that rule.

Again, county and state work totally different and they are totally different entities so what you become accustom to with county will not apply to state facilities.
