Si se puede o no se puede? (Yes, we can or no, we can't?) Which one is it Mr. President?

Beginning in 2008 we started hearing from then presidential candidate Barack Obama that if elected he'd take quick action on immigration reform. During this time he also began straying to the left of the bourgeois mainstream opinion by hinting at a distaste for workplace raids of undocumented migrants. Also, he never bothered to mention anything about the many undocumented people who'd committed a "crime" in crossing the Mexico/U.$. border when he gave his speech at the National Council of La Raza.(1)

Default Obama Acts to Spare Many Youths From Deportation

Obama Acts to Spare Many Youths From Deportation

By ALICIA A. CALDWELL and JIM KUHNHENN Associated Press
WASHINGTON June 15, 2012 (AP)

President Barack Obama suddenly eased enforcement of the nation's
immigration laws Friday, an extraordinary step offering a chance for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to stay in the country and work. Embraced by Hispanics, his action touched off an election-year confrontation with many Republicans.

Default US to weigh gay relationships in deportation cases

US to weigh gay relationships in deportation cases

By AMY TAXIN and LISA LEFF | Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Amid pressure from Democratic lawmakers, Homeland Security officials reiterated Friday that a foreigner's longstanding same-sex relationship with a U.S. citizen could help stave off the threat of deportation.

Default Article: More jails refuse to honor ICE holds

I didn't know that many jails aren't holding inmates for 48 hours after their scheduled release, as ICE wants them to. There is no mention of prison policies, however.

ICE Plans to Reopen the Very Same Private Prison the Feds Just Closed

Advocates cheered when the Justice Department began shuttering its private prisons. But immigration officials saw an opportunity.

The Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, New Mexico, is owned and operated by the Corrections Corporation of America. For 16 year, until weeks ago, it operated under contract with the Bureau of Prisons. But in early August, the BOP informed CCA that it would prematurely end that contact, four years before the agreement was set to expire.
...
Now, a Cibola County official who says he has been briefed by CCA and members of Congress tells The Nation that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is moving forward with plans to sign an agreement with CCA to reopen the facility as an immigration detention center.

Question immigration ,detention and deportation

First I would like to introduce myself , my name is Janie and I am currently in the situation that we all dread to be in. My husband was incarcerated back in 2012 for fishing without a license. They gave him 4 years all together because he had a DWI pending that he never showed up to in 1994 so there was a warrant. My husband served his time and then got deported. he was told by the judge that she didn't want to see him in the states for a whole year because if he were to come back he would be taken before her since she is the one that sentenced him and would give him 10 to 20 years. well my husband waited the year and came back in September of this year. everything was fine until he left to work , there was a Targeting Task Force that had already been following him and he is now detained again for re-entry. I advise any body out there that please be careful. Right now the private prisons are making the money with our family, they target making sure to keep these prisons full.
My question is if anybody can tell me , now with Trump as president will the incarcerated illegal immigrants be some of the first ones to be deported.????

I think it's too early to say at this point -- my uneducated view based on the news is that which Trump is saying now: they hope to first start concentrating on securing the border and stop new illegal immigrants coming in. Next step would be deportation of those undocumented immigrants who have a criminal record. It doesn't seem like his "deportation task force" will quite be what he was proclaiming it to be during his campaign...however, this is just my view - I don't know if anyone can tell for sure right now.

Welcome to Prison Talk and I wish the best for you and your husband!

Welcome to Prison Talk Janie. Everyone will have to wait to see what new policies are implemented after the new president is inaugurated in January. Being here illegally at this moment in time is probably not a good thing.

Federal deportation swat teams? mandatory minimum prison sentences for "returnees?", Berlin wall South (not only to keep "them" out, but more importantly to keep "us" in), who knows, but it's definitely bad timing.
