Default Info on different types of petitions

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SIGNED A PETITION OR SENT AN EMAIL ON TO TEN PEOPLE BECAUSE A FRIEND ASKED YOU TO DO IT???? THIS TELLS YOU WHY YOU SHOULD NOT DO IT. IMPORTANT TO READ!!!!!!!!!
Carrie

Internet education...and awareness.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE THIS 2 HEART & LIVE BY IT!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT !

To whom it all concerns:

Just a word to the wise.

E-mail petitions are NOT acceptable to Congress or any other
municipality.

To be acceptable petitions must have a signed signature and full
address.

Almost all e-mails that ask you to add your name and forward on to
others are similar to that mass letter years ago that asked people to send
business cards to the little kid in Florida who wanted to break the Guinness
Book of Records for the most cards. All it was, and all this type of e-mail
is, is to get names and "cookie" tracking info for tele-marketers and
spammers to validate active e-mail accounts for their own purposes.

Any time you see an e-mail that says forward this on to "10" of
your friends, sign this petition, or you'll get good luck, or whatever, it
has either an e-mail tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and
e-mails of those folks you forward to, or the host sender is getting a copy
each time it gets forwarded and then is able to get lists of "active"
e-mails to use in spam e-mails, or sell to others that do.

Please forward this notice to others and you will be providing a
good service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting 30,000
spam e-mails in the future.

(If you have been sending o ut the above kinds of email, now you
know why you get so much spam!)

While not altogether useless, online petions aren't quite the same as standard petitions that you physically sign.

You should check it out via the link provided by the OP.

I've found snopes.com has done their homework, and they're very informative on a wide range of subjects!

What CountryGal wrote COULD happen, but in this forum where we are all family/friends of loved ones who are in prison, I have faith that it would NOT happen. Aren't we all in the same boat? Are we not here to support each other, including our online petitions? I'm skeptical and cynical, yet we must all hang on to the belief that some good can and does come from petitions--I encourage all here to be supportive in each others endeavors.

then how do you get house of reperesenatives and congress attention? I am interested in the H.R. 3072 bill. This is the one that helps parol instead of prisontime for nonviolent offenders. "What?" do I do.

google in your house of representatives, your state, and on the state official page they will list all reps, party, what committee's they sit on and phone and addresses, along with e-mail addresses. Start poundiing them with e-mails and letters and phone calls... that's how we do it in mississippi!!

I concur with "Devastated Mom" and "Patticake" about making attempts to get our loved ones out of prison, with the efforts of filling Petitions. The Bible lets us know that "Faith without Works is dead," and if we do not try to free our loved ones with some type of effort, legally, or appealing to the judges in writing letters, etc., then it appears we have given up hope. Irregardless of what other comments are posted on this website, I will continue to fight for my child's freedom. I also write and email representatives, because our "U.S. Congress" are responsible for many laws on the books that need to be changed immediately - FEDERAL MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCING LAWS. FMMS are laws that sentences young men to prison, based on the type of drug they were charged with, and anyone charged with Meth crimes are receiving lighter sentences (Crack Cocaine vs. Meth Sententences). I wish there were not anyone using or selling drugs in the United States, but there are those in our Country that does "entrap" children and young adults with drugs. I believe in rehabilitation, and simultaneously, disassociating oneself from those who were the reason that caused you your freedom. It's hard to find people in our communities who truly understands our pain (of having loved ones in prison), but I think this support group is the best thing I could have joined. God Bless and keep the faitth and hope alive!

Just signing an online petition and providing city/state and an email address (that will not be made public) may not impress a governor or politician in a perfect way, but I do believe the long list of supporters of a petition does carry some weight.

No decision will be made simply based on a petition, but for politicians it WILL impress on them that it is a serious matter that many people took the time to support. That may not bring victory/freedom, but it is a positive step in the right direction!

As family members of prisoners, this is one thing we can and should do!
