Default How does the BOP and the Inmate Matrix work

My son was sentenced with three options. ONe that he complete the BRt program and the BOP will consider a release date of feb 20122, then if he complete BRT and pays restitution the BOP will consider a release date of Oct of 2011. if not then he serves a sentence til aug of 2012. He has completed the BRT 80% restitution has been paid, he has not been a problem inmate and he just had a special hearing and given all the information have made a decision that his new release date is may of 2012. I am not all familiar with the BOP and how it works, I am getting educated just like everyone else, but with the jail over crowded and he has completed the program and has been incarcerated for almost 2 years for theft it just doesn't make sense that the BOP would go contrary to their original Matrix for him. Can anyone help shed light on how they work and what one can do, if anything.

The BOP has not been following the matrix recently. The BOP has the right to do what ever it wants to do. They are not seeming to go light on inmates right now. We did EVERYTHING the BOP asked and still only got a 2 month time cut at his special attention hearing.

Why is is that they are unwavering..especially with all the hype of overcrowded jails? Do you have any idea? Would writing the BOP help at all or only make things worse? I appreciate your input.
Thanks,

Writing the BOP will not make any difference. Most of the hype about overcrowding in the news is to scare the legislature into giving the prison and jails the funding that they want.

The only thing that can change there decision is if there is NEW information that the board has not heard previously. We made the mistake of giving them everything at the time of our hearing hoping it would help with his time cut. So, we have no new information to give them now.

I've wondered if it is better to give them little bits of information at a time to get maximum time cuts over the long run?
