New to this, I've just sent my first letter to a new pen-pal - please help!!!
Hi All...been checking out this forum and you girls are right there for each other lending support. I'm hoping you can do the same for me:
My friend told me that she has a prison pen-pal through her church's prison ministry, and it was a good experience for her. I thought, "I have some time on my hands, this could be a good experience for me as well." I did a Google search and ended up on a prison PP site. I just kind of looked around and then...
...I saw his picture! I can't explain it...something inside me just said, "this is your guy." I am a 31 year old professional female and I have never felt anythihg like this before. I wrote him a letter introducing myself and sent 2 photos of myself as well. He is at Folsom in CA and I'm in Los Angeles, CA. What are my chances of this guy actually writing back? Do guys just collect letters from women, or what? Please help shed some light, I can't believe I have myself all worked up over a guy I've never even met or corresponded with, but I'm telling you, something sparked inside me when I saw his picture.
Any help, ladies? Thanks a million and I'm here for you, too.

The mail can sometimes take a while, so be patient. In the meantime, be careful not to turn this man into your fantasy guy. You know the one that always does and says the right things. Ha! Take some time to get to know him. Good Luck and keep us posted!

As he was on a PP site, I am pretty sure he will write back. I wish you loads of luck in your new friendship.

I just want to say Princess brings up a very important point...do not make this your fantasy guy!
Ask yourself what are your motives in writing to someone incarcerated.
Just looking at someone's picture doesnt tell the whole story. And i will be the first to admit some of the pp sites look like outright meat market's!
I really caution people to not look at prison pen pals as possible boyfriends or husband's...wives or girlfriend's...get to know each other, and always stay honest about your motive's.
Otherwise, enjoy the relationship you are embarking on!

welcome to pto and to our corner! chances are that he wil write back . each inmate is different, some do have many pen pals, others are less fortunate and receive little mail. the reputation given to inmates is that they are all jail casanovas in power with women lined up for their needs...some do and some don't!.....if you write to someone, the best is not to think about all the negativity,be wise and use your common sense, and give the chance each person deserves to prove himself.until proven guilty he is innocent..
best of luck and happy writing! orchidia

When I first wrote MT I had noticed that he had like 2 thousand 'hits' on his pen pal site and I actually was wanting to write someone that wasnt getting alot of attention...so I didn't write him at first....but I kept thinking about his 'ad' and sent him a little card....convinced I'd be one of his many fan club members
I got a letter back within a week....turns out he only writes to a few friends....and he's turned out to be such a super special cutie pie!!
Here's my tip: You'll hear alot about 'prison playa's'.....but honestly, they're not all like that. I'm sure you'll be getting your letter super quick!!! Let us know!

I agree with the other posts, and some advice I too must pay close attention to as I am kinda in the same boat as you - waiting for my first letter, thus waiting with great anticipation. It's very easy to get caught up with day dreams and make someone the ideal fantasy person.
The waiting period is not very nice but I must admit it comes with the territory i'm afraid...(i'm moaning about it in another thread)
I really hope he writes back, please let us know what happens!!

I am 100% with Dana (Spica) on this. Go in with the intention of making a friend, not looking for a partner. Make sure you have ground rules and he knows them i.e. money, visits, pictures, things that you feel are important. Most of all remember he is a human being, that needs a friend.
