Several of the WV Facilities are allowing Holiday Packages again this year through Access Secure Pack. I have sent packages to D at MOCC for the past two years this way, and he has been pleased. The items available are ones they cannot get on commissary, so I'll be sending him another this year.
The facilities that participate are:
Anthony Correctional Center
Northern Correctional Center (DOC side - not the regional jail side)
Ohio County Correctional Center
First Day to Place Orders: November 3, 2008
Last Day to Place Orders: December 5, 2008
Mail Orders to be Postmarked Starting: November 28, 2008
Vicki: Do you have any idea when the Holiday Gift packages should arrive? I sent one to a friend at Mount Olive, but on the gift package company website my order is still listed as "pending shipment" -- so looks like it hasn't been mailed yet. I emailed the company to inquire about anticipated delivery but they didn't respond. Just wondering if you had heard anything.
I ordered my package on December 8th (I got in just under the wire!) and received an email notification today that it shipped on the 16th which was yesterday. My package also goes to MOCC, so hopefully you will hear something today also. If not, give them a call instead of emailing.
Yes, I received an email yesterday too (after I posted the question), so hopefully they will distribute the packages before Christmas. Do you happen to know if the items in these gift packages (the variety of food items offered) is different from what the inmates can normally get from the commissary at MOCC? Just curious whether the items would be a special treat for Christmas (foods not normally available to them) or the same items that are routinely available through their commissary.
Yes, 99% of the items in the gift package are not available on commissary. Glad you got your confirmation, and it has been my experience the past two years that the inmates do get the packages before Christmas.
Hi Vicki! Do you happen to know if the gift packages made it to MOCC and if so what day they were distributed? Got a letter from my inmate friend today, written Christmas Eve, and he didn't mention getting it -- though maybe the packages were handed out later, like Christmas Day? Heard anything from the friend you sent your package to? Just wondering.
