Pentonville prison was the prototype for a radical design by Major Jebb - after whom the avenue on which Brixton prison stands was named. Pentonville was completed over 150 years ago and has remained in use ever since as a local prison. Although much refurbishment has taken place the original four cellblocks are as they were when the prison opened in 1842.

If you are travelling to London by train, Kings Cross is the nearest main line station. You can then catch the northbound tube on the Piccadilly Line to Caledonian Road.

Caledonian and Barnsbury British Rail Station is on the Richmond and Stratford line. When you leave the station, turn right and Pentonville is about 5 minutes walk on the same side of the road.

There are bus stops on both sides of the road outside Pentonville. Routes 17, 19, 259 and 274 all stop here.
