Most state intake prisons keep the inmate confined for 23 hours a day. So even if he had access to a phone, he would have very little time to use it. They will set up his state prison phone system while he's there.

Hang in there - you're almost at the end. It takes 2 - 4 weeks typically for them to find a bed for him at another prison. The best thing you can do is write to him, being honest about how anxious you are. It will help you and him knowing you haven't forgotten him will help him. Mail is gold inside. Even just a little card is gold.

I wrote my Dad daily during intake. He couldn't write back, but I wrote anyway. It helped me through it.
