"Promotion of Felons" - Revision coming in June? (NC)

Just talked to Jeff and he told me that a revision to the NC DPS "Promotion of Felons" is happening in June. Cannot find anything online (maybe too early) but hopefully there's anyone on here who could point me into the right direction or has even a tipp? Thanks a million!

I found this section in NC DPS Policy and Procedure Manual Chapter: C
Section: .0500
Title: Promotion of Felons
Issue Date: 11/16/11
Supersedes: 12/12/08
http://www.doc.state.nc.us/dop/polic...nual/c0500.pdf
Maybe there is some new changes coming out to this section in June.
I will check further with NC DPS on this matter.

It's the new revision of "Promotion of Felons" which will suppose to come to effect on November 6th. I've found the old one from June 2017 but there's an update.
If you have any clue where to find the new one that supersedes the one from June 2017 I'll be happy.

I am pretty sure these are the same documents that you have found, but I will link them for you any way promotion of felons They are subject for review again in June 2018
from what I read in the summary sheet. That is as current as I can get. Here you can see the Chronological Log to the Policy and Procedures Manual it shows all of the sections that have had changes (reviews) this year and last. In further review of the Policy and Procedure Manual. The only changes I see issued on 11/1/2017 is Admission Custody Assignment
.

Hey Patrickj... Jeffrey was just told to take the last class he needs (prep for release)... is that a good sign that he'll be moved to minimum/released at some point?
No updates on any sites yet, on his board it says "New policies are coming into effect Nov. 6, 2017".
Thanks!

Are there any updates on this?

No changes that I could find any where

MizzyMuffling 05-10-2018 05:51 AM

I keep checking as well and nothing... :-(
BUT... my boyfriend has been telling me that they are "flushing" out prisoners sentenced under some old law and he has been saying goodbye to quite a few fellow inmates within the last months... I stay hopeful.

Patrickj... got a question for you... if you don't mind... even though this thread is a year old things are moving and nothing can be found online... but.... as I told you before my boyfriend was sentenced under some "old law" and now NC has started to "flush out" inmates who are still in prison who were convicted under that old law... I cannot find anything about that online and my bf just told me that there exists a list of inmates still incarcerated under that old law... any clue where to find this??
He gave me a link but it looks like it's an "internal" server and not available on the WWW...
Thanks!

I might be able to answer this question for you. The sentencing law in NC used to be called Fair Sentencing, where inmates could receive time off below their minimum sentence for earned time and good behavior. This law was changed in October 1994. Everyone sentenced after that point was sentenced under Structured Sentencing, where inmates have to serve 100% of their minimum time and have no chance for parole. He might be referring to Fair Sentencing. In that case, there isn't a list per say, it's just a general rule of if they were sentenced before October 1994. It's also possible that he's noticing other inmates leaving who have been there for awhile, because that law was changed over 20 years ago, and most of those people would have served extended sentences by this time anyway, especially if they are getting time off for good behavior.

I hope this helped!

MizzyMuffling 05-22-2018 10:59 PM

Yes it did, thank you very much - this is exactly it!! Awesome!
So we just have to wait and see what'll happen... :D

MizzyMuffling 05-22-2018 11:25 PM

Oh... :D
P.S. is there anywhere online I could read more about this or find like a statistic or anything with regards to "flushing out felons" sentenced under that Fair Sentencing Act? Any info would be helpful, thank you!

To be honest, I haven't found anything recent on it, but I haven't been looking particularly hard since my guy was sentenced in 2015. Wish I could help more! If I come across anything, I'll let you know.
