What happens at a pretrial?

I have a question maybe you ladies can help me out with. What usually happens at a pretrial? My man has been locked up for a month now. He has had his first appearance, and then 10 days later he had his preliminary hearing which he waived. They scheduled his pretrial for May 31, and plea for June 13. What I'm wondering is what usually happens at the pretrial. Do they usually offer them a plea deal? He is looking at 2-5 years (that's the punishment for his class of felony) but he is trying to get a year in jail or rehab instead of prison which I don't know if we will get that.

Thanks in advance if you have any answers :)

A plea agreement can be offered at any time, even in the middle of a jury trial. Hearings like that are often used to set timelines for the case, and for the judge to make sure that both sides are doing what they are required to do, such as with discovery. Judges and court systems often have their own rules about what will happen at the various hearings too.
