The difference in sentences is eye opening...sentences can be long n cruel..my guy was in a car with someone who was being surveillanced plain clothes police tried to apprehend the guy...my guy thought was getting robbed he try to drive off, another car pull out and he hit it, no one was injured except few superficial cuts n bruises, my guy got 60 yrs parole after 30 aggravated assault on public servant...

Vintagejen77 01-21-2013 10:19 PM

Two life sentences, no parole, all happened when we were both nineteen and his first offense.

BlondeAmbition 01-21-2013 10:33 PM

My friend was charged with capital murder and received 99 years @ 50%. He won't be eligible for his first parole until 2027.

so my boyfriend just got charged with first degree murder. he was denied bail and awaiting trial. im in canada, i was wondering if anyone else could help me? im very worried that he will not be able to get parole for a long time. basically he planned to rob a guy and in the heat of the robbery his friend stabbed the man and he died. :(

I don't know how it works in Canada but my LO stabbed a man to death when only planning to rob him and he got 50 with parole at 25. really in my opinion it's going to depend on previous offences and the judge and jury. sorry to hear about your boyfriend. hang in there, we're here to support.

Your fella's sentence will depend upon alot of factors like what charges are laid, ie, manslaughter, 1st or 2nd degree murder, whether he has a criminal record, whether he plead guilty, whether witnesses testify against him, robbery with a weapon is a felony so he will probably do some heavy time. my man is doing life, 15 (also in canada) for second degree murder. What went against him in his trial was a lengthy record of assaults from his late teens into his twenties, the judge looked at his record and thought he needed a serious lesson.

Wow,that doesn't seem right!
He didn't even know they were police and it doesn't sound like he was trying to assault anyone.
The justice system has little rhyme or reason in some cases:(

Mine was charged with 2nd degree murder & felony murder. When they got him it was a cold case. Him and another guy robbed someone, no intent to kill. The person wasn't supposed to be home at the time but was and was shot and killed. He got 15 years, no parole. He's been down 3 with 12 to go, I've been down with him for a year and a half. I just called things off 2 days ago but I'm not turning my back on him. He has to show me what he really wants & what he's gonna do before I continue in this relationship. I'm praying he gets it together, I love him & I don't want us to lose each other....

Im in total "AWE" at the loyalty, hope & dedication of those of you that replied on this thread. Your LO is definitely very fortunate to have you in their corner (I sure hope they are aware of that). You are a rare find & deserve to be recognized. Not too many people would hang in there, as you all have. GBY!!!
