Reasons for sudden transfers?
Hello all, I was wondering what could be the reason why an inmate would transfer facilities? I haven’t heard from a pen pal of mine in a little bit and so I went to the Colorado DOC to check on him and it looks like they’ve transferred him from sterling to Fremont. He only just transferred from from another facility at Cañon city to sterling in September and now they’ve transferred him again to Fremont. Is this usual? I’m just trying to figure out if I should be worried about him or not? In his last letter he wasn’t very happy with how he was being treated at sterling and he mentioned how much he disliked the COs or ‘pigs’ as he called them. I’m worried he’s gone and got himself in some trouble but I won’t know until he writes again. Thanks in advance if someone more knowledgeable can give me some insight x

Depending on the actual prison system, transfers can be for a number of different reasons. The most common ones are routine transfers to adjust population numbers, moves to separate specific inmates, but conduct problems cause them too, often to a higher security level prison. He will have to tell you the actual reason, but September and November transfers are likely because of some sort of conflict.
