Alda Ribeira Acosta - Please Support Her
Alda Ribeira Acosta is a Uruguayan mother who has been incarcerated in prison in Bolivia since 2006.

Her trial was extremely questionable and even the Bolivian authorities agreed that it was contrary to Bolivian law resulting in her conviction (and 30 year sentence) being dismissed in early 2008.

Since then she has been waiting to either have a new trial date set or be released.

Alda has suffered several serious medical problems brought on as a result of her time in prison and would have certainly died without the support of a friend in America.

She has not had any contact with her family or children since 2006 and is desperate to see them.

Her friends have now started a campaign to try to raise awareness of Alda's plight and have set up a website dedicated to her.

Please visit and support Alda by taking an interest in her case.

Thank you.

Alda's site has been updated and has an interesting article by the Inter-Americas Commission for human rights about prison conditions in Bolivia.

Check it out.

We received a letter from Alda today updating us on her current conditions.

I have tried to translate it as well as I can but if there are any fluent Spanish speakers who could help that would be fantastic.

It is on her site HERE.

As always these letters remind us all what terrible conditions people are forced to live in when imprisoned in Bolivia even when they are not convicted of a crime.
