He wrote the warden himself asking permission and the warden okayed it. I had to go down to the county clerks and pay 25.00 for the marriage lisence then i had to pay 30.00 for a chaplin to come in and do it. Then i payed for his ring and that was about it i think ummmmm..okay here is the story...... My fiance had to get the chaplins permission. S.okay here is the story...... You still CANNOT get married at both Stateville and Menard. Nothing has changed as far as those two prisons are concerned.

In Randolph County the problem is STILL that the County Clerk, Patricia Laramore, will not go to the prisons to do all the paperwork. She still insists she's not going to waste taxpayers money on 'convicts'.

HEY YALL,

I KINDA HAVE AN IDEA HOW TO GET MARRIED IN IL, BUT THERE ARE JUST A COUPLE THINGS THAT I NEED TO KNOW.
1ST, I KNOW THAT ILLINOIS RIVER CORRECTIONAL CENTER, THEY DONT HAVE A FULL TIME CHAPLIN, SO WE (CHRIS AND I) HAVE NO IDEA WHEN WE CAN GET MARRIED OR IF WE CAN. HE HAS A FRIEND THAT IS ALSO A INMATE THAT HAS HIS LICENCE TO PERFORE MARRIGES, CAN HE MARRY US? OR DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A CHAPLIN FROM THE PRISON TO PERFORM THE MARRIGE? 2ND I AM FROM CALIFORNIA AND STILL LIVE HERE. I WAS LOOKING AT THE POST AND READ A COUPLE TIMES THAT " YOU NEED A WITNESS", WELL SINCE IN 1859 MILES AWAY, I WASNT PLANNING TO BRING ANYONE WITH ME, SO I NEED TO? CAN I HAVE ONE OF HIS FRIENDS COME OUT AND BE A WITNESS FOR ME? 3RD, SINCE MY MARRIGE WILL BE IN ANOTHER STATE, WILL IT BE VALID HERE IN CALIFORNIA, AND IF NOT HOW DO I GO ABOUT MAKEING IT VALID. 4TH AND FINAL! SORRY GUYS:0 I KNOW THAT THE STATE OF ILLINOIS DOESNT ALLOW CONJICALS BUT AFTER YOUR WEDDING, DO THEY GIVE YOU TIME ALONE OR ANYTHING? THANKS FOR READING MY CONFUSION, AND IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD GREATLY APPREIATE IT.

THANKS

I would like to know of anyone getting married in USP Marion Prison

Rostonhall 01-15-2004 10:25 AM

Don't hold your breath waiting to get married anywhere in Illinois. The situation hasn't changed. there're very, very few weddings being allowed. And, Mande, before you write and tell me you got married, you're the only one we know of THIS YEAR and you were extremely lucky to get away with it.

I do know of one wedding that is to take place in the Federal prison in Marion,IL. My friend and her man are doing this on Feb. 4th. It took them only two weeks to be approved and they did not have any trouble. there is a new Warden and Caseworker there now so I guess things have changed.

Rostonhall 01-16-2004 10:04 AM

That's a Federal prison and nothing to do with the State of Illinois. It's State run prisons that have a problem.

has anyone got married at the ILLINOIS RIVER CORRECTIONAL lately? if so can you tell me what is involved?

Carlax3 02-09-2005 08:55 PM

Sahar:

I got married at Vienna Correctional Center in June 2004 -- The pastor of the prison married us and did not charge anything (we sent hima love offering later at his church to say thanks) and I bought the ring in with me (gold band only -- no diamonds) -- the Johnson County clerk came to the prison the day before the wedding so we could sign the certificate (it cost $25) -- and then I got married the next day. I came from California and got married in Illinois and yes it is valid and legal in CA :) --

I was told early on when I joined PTO that my situation was very unusual so I don't know what has happened to anyone else.

Carlax3 02-09-2005 08:56 PM

P.S. -- When I went to visit my husband in December -- 2 couples got married that day -- for Christmas :) -

Keep trying...it is well worth it.

We are still waiting to get married at Illinois River but no Chaplain. A counselor made it clear that no marriages will take place until they hire a Chaplain. I still don't know if we can bring our own to perform the marriage. That's a good question to bring up so I'll have Mike ask his Counselor. No conjugal visits at IL River but it would be nice to have some time "alone" after the ceremony. Even 1/2 hour is good. Just imagine but I guess we can only dream for now.

SAHAR 02-11-2005 06:45 AM

that word NO to a stubborn so an so like me means maybe L.O.L ...... there must be a way around this problem of there being no chaplain...... what about people of different faiths , for example Islam ? they must have visiting Imams /or other faiths ministers at the prison?

SAHAR 02-11-2005 06:54 AM

CARLAX3 hers wishing you both joy & peace for your future together:thumbsup:

Rostonhall 02-12-2005 12:18 PM

Sahar, there are Imams at some prisons, I know there's one at Menard, but they're not allowed to marry anyone who isn't Muslim, and I know that applies to the Catholic priests, also.

Rose

SAHAR 02-15-2005 07:22 AM

thanks Rostonhall , we are both Muslim , but as yet its not decided if we should attempt to marry whilst he is in prison or wait, he still has 5 years left to serve, i feel in many ways being his wife would have more "clout" when dealing with officials etc ..... mind you that,s not the only reason for our wanting to marry:thumbsup:

My man is in Graham Correctional, and we are wanting to get married, we don't want to aait another 2 years for him to come home! Has anyone got married at Graham? If so, how does it work, and what do you have to do. They DO have a chaplain there, my guy got a letter from him a while back when he asked for permission to get a St. Jude chain and medallion from me that I am to send him this week. When they get it in the mail room, he goes to pick it up from the chaplain.

Most prisons do have Chaplains, but its not the prison Chaplian that does the inmate weddings.

As far as IL weddings I dont know if its all IL prisons or just a select few that are having troubles

rlewis729 07-26-2005 11:28 AM

I know you can get married at Centralia - my baby is there, and his buddy just got married last week.

InmatesGirl 09-15-2005 08:17 AM

How long does it usually take to get approval to get married? My fiance and I are concidering it... but he only has 17 months so if it is going to take awhile, we might as well just wait until he comes home in January 2007 :)

missteail 09-19-2005 07:13 AM

You have to check with your bf, he can tell you how long it takes or call the facility he is at and check with them.

Victorsbaby 01-02-2006 09:25 PM

Does anyone know about getting married at FCI Greenville, Illinois?!?

Nando's_Baby 01-05-2006 08:02 PM

My boyfriend is in statesville and one of his friends recently got married in stateville. So i do think they are allowing them to get married in there. That is why he wants us to get married
