Hi my names Michelle and am new to this and would love to communicate with others with loved ones in the VA prison system. I met my other half through a pen pal website, just being nosey and decided to write, 6 months later we are still writing and i really like this man, he says he likes me too. I have been married and have kids, i am 35 yo and live in australia, i am curious too what everyone thinks about this situation, can it work. I am prepared to come over when he is released, infact i will be over in 8 months to say hi in person. Am i being unrealistic here, this man honestly seems to posess all the qualities i have ever wanted in a man and i find myself falling for him more & more with each letter. Also i was curious he went up for parole first time in Dec and was refused, how much of a sentence do they have to do in Virginia before being released. Thanks for listening you people are my lifeline, take care:)

well, in VA there isn't any parole so they have to pull at least 85% of their time. If you go to the vadoc website you can get his release date. Welcome to PTO

There is parole if he is an "old law" inmate. Which means he had to commit his crime before 1995. The circumstances are all different when it comes to being released on parole and can never just be guessed by the amount of time done. My husband has been in for 3 1/2 years on a technical violation of his parole and just went up for parole the first part of January. While he has done all things asked of him and done over half his time left he is not looking to come home until his mandatory date. I have seen people go home that had 5 years left and I have seen people get turned down that had 8 months left............Virginia is rough but hang in there! Good luck with your new relationship. I hope that it turns out to be all that your looking for.

Thanks everyone for your welcoming kind words, i love it here, the support is fantastic, i wish everyone that posted a reply all the best, i appreciate it. I am just curious why do they put them up for parole every year if they have no chance of being released, his crime was committed 1996 (unfortunately), he has done 8 years and has till 2019 on his file, i am not sure how it all works. Thanks everyone again

Michellei - The law says for VA prisoners is 85% if their sentence. My boyfriend is in a VA prison ( South Hampton ) and been there for 8 yrs and has 3 more to go with no parole. I am thinking about getting a lawyer to see because he is always on good behavior. My email is ksantangelo22@comcast.net email me and we can talk more
