Hey Everyone! I haven't wrote in awhile...been busy with the baby. I have a question I hope you can help me with. Bf wrote me and asked for me to try to get him transfered. He is trying to get closer to me and our 7 month old. He hasn't been in any trouble and he is work release. There are about 40 guys ahead of him right now for jobs and I just know if he were to come down where I am there would be jobs for him. How do I go about checking on this? Where do I even start? Right now he is about 4 - 5 hours from me. Makes it really hard with such a small one and no famiy up there. Any help would be great. I am going to go and see him the end of this month. I can't wait. It has been so long! He only has 1 more year to his EOS and he hasn't been in any trouble at all! Help!

Has he put in the paperwork at the facility where he is now for a transfer request? That's always the first step and needs to be done before anything else is done. There are two work release centers in that area, Mobile and Loxley, he should put in a transfer request for both/either.
Once he has filed the transfer request at his current facility, you could follow that up with a call or letter to Paul Whaley in Central Classifications that might speed things along, however, the system is so overcrowded now that lateral transfers (transferring from the same security facility to another) are not a high priority on their list. Then again - on the off chance that there may be more room at Loxley or Mobile WR than where he is now, they might be happy to move him sooner than later.
In other words, you never know until you try, but again, the initial contact needs to be the inmate filing a transfer request with Classifications at his facility...

It wouldn't hurt to get him a job as well.

How do I go about getting him a job? Do I maybe just tell this Mr. Waley that I can find him a job down here or do I find him one and then write him? What do I tell him the reason that I want him down here for. It is just so hard for me to see him when he is so far away and we are planning on getting married. He also needs to get a job. He has kids he could be helping and paying off his fines.
I'm sorry to ask so many questions, I just don't know what to do to help him with this.

whatever you do dont make the mistake of mentioning to them that you are wanting him to be geographically easier to get to, sometimes they take that as a sign of you trying to help him get out of hell! thats why the halfway house in decatur didnt let joe come to them, cause they said its too risky with me being this close....oh brother!.....i wish you the best amber and hope he can get close so he can see you and the kids more and start helping with money. God be with you
