The French actress Béatrice Dalle has married a convicted prisoner she met after becoming a voluntary visitor to his jail.
A town hall official conducted the wedding in the waiting room of the Hermitage prison in Brest, Dalle's home town in Brittany. Under jail rules, soft drinks and biscuits would have been available afterwards.
The groom's identity, and details of his crime, were not disclosed.
Dalle, 40, who has shown a capacity to shock since appearing in explicit nude scenes in her first film, Betty Blue, in 1986, was familiar with the French criminal justice system before starting to make charity visits to prisoners.
In 1992, she was given a six-month suspended sentence for shoplifting after stealing jewellery in the Marais district of Paris.
A search of her flat uncovered more than 30 bracelets, rings and necklaces. Four years later she was fined for drug offences.
Dalle has also been involved in the international campaign to clear the name of Leonard Peltier, who is serving life imprisonment in America for the murder of two FBI agents during a siege at an Indian reservation in South Dakota in 1975. Dalle was previously married to a French painter, Jean-Francois Dalle.
After they divorced, she had a relationship with the French rap artist, Joey Starr.
