Hi,

This is my first post. My son is in reception at NKSP and I really don't know anything about what is going on. I am guessing they will ship him out eventually but until then can he call, get commissary, have visits? He is a first time offender and he was in a recovery program but was caught being friends with a female in the same program so them gave him 2 years. I last saw him on Dec 3, 2004 and put some money on the books so he should have some there (right????) If anyone out there knows anything about NKSP and what is possibly going on now could you let me know. Thanks so much from a mom whose son is her heart!

Bubblescalif- They can't call while in reception and the commissary can take a few weeks. The money will be transferred to North Kern.
Luv_my_sunshine - I have a loved one at North Kern (mainline) but I have not heard anything about what's happening there now re. a lockdown. If you get more news please post the info- thanks!

It takes about 30 days (minimum) before they can even call while in reception at NKSP. You can call and make an appointment to have a visit behind the glass, but it's only for one hour. I don't know how far you have to drive to get there, but with this bad weather and all, you may want to wait. The prison number is 661 721 2345. I have a son there too, but I haven't talked to him since July. but that's another story.

:D Thanks so much to DLM and cspennato! :) You made me feel like I finally have someone who knows at least something that I can grasp now. I can't thank you enough. I have spent many wakeless nights just wondering what is going on. I don't know anyone who has ever been in prison before and how the system works. You are right about the weather...We are in Temecula and it is about a 4 hour drive in decent weather! I have written my son almost every day but have only gotten one letter since he arrived and in it he mostly just tried to reassure me that he was okay. He knows I am a wreck !!! I asked him for a Visitation Form, but knowing him, he will try to wait until he is sent somewhere (hopefully closer) so that I don't have to drive so far (I am disabled) He knows I would crawl there if I had to! I think he is in B1 or B2. Thanks again for the messages....I look forward to hearing more if you or anyone can tell me more.

I know exactly how you must be feeling right now- it's very distressing! I hadn't know anything about the system either before this happened. I have learned so much just by coming here - please PM me anytime or ask anything. I am not in California so it makes it that much harder trying to find out what exactly is going on.

Hi There luv my sunshine, I have a son who has been in receiving at NKSP since Dec 20 of 2004. I just got my third letter today from him. He says they are in lockdown for three days then out for an hour to shower! Says it is okay with him because he just sleeps most of the day to pass the time. Said he finally got some of my letters and was thrilled!:D I sent more today with some pictures I printed from the digital camera on the computer printer. We/he have lived in Riverside for 10 years but just moved to Temecula 2 months ago. Have you been to NKSP for a visit yet? How long was your loved one in Receiving? Let me hear from you about his experiences there so far. Take Care! ;) Judy

Has anyone heard how long the lockdown (not the Statewide lockdown) is going to be? And when they're allowed to have visits ?

I called Sierra Conservation Center yesterday and they said the statewide lockdown was expected to be lifted today.

cspennato,

This implies that I do not have to wait for the visitation paperwork approval to call and make an appointment for a visit behind the glass. Am I interpreting what you wrote correctly? Also does anyone know if I can have books sent to him (Amazon, etc) while he is at NKSP reception?

Matt's Dad~ They can not recieve books while in reception. Once he's mainlined then he can. The only thing my fiance has been able to recieve is letters and pictures (no more than 10 pictures at a time) I believe you have to have your visiting form filled our and approved before you visit.

He also said that they have been on lock down becuase of the fog. They can't recieve commissary when they are on lock down. J said its been since before Christmas that he's been able to go the "store".

My fiance has been there since the beginning of August so if you have other questions please post them or PM me and I will try to answer them.

You don't need to make an appointment to visit a inmate in reception only if they're in AD/SEG.

You may be able to call NKSP and talk to someone in the Visiting department. If you give them his CDC number they will tell you specifically what you need and when and if you can visit. It's not as scary as it sounds. I've called when my son first went in because I didn't know anyone else to ask. The only way to get a visiting form though is from the inmate.

Do you mean that even if they are in Reception for 90 days they still can't call?

As far as I know no phone calls are allowed while in reception - even if it's 90 days (which seems the average time they are spending in reception)
