For anyone that has a loved one in SCC in Jamestown.....
Pat called on wed. and he had told me that they shut off all the hot water coming into their dorms, Then today he called and told me ALL water has been shut off. He said he saw on the news that they are in a STATE OF EMERCENCY!! I guess that lake where the water comes in from has filled up with mud from all the rain therefore clogging the pipes. He also said something about them doing maintanence on the dam and this year they lowered the lakes level too far. I guess it is just a muster of things that have lead to this. Our loved ones are not getting showers and are having to use porta-potties (yuck). They don't know when it will be fixed because in order for the mud in the lake to settle they need a good 4-8 days of no rain. Pat did say that they will be aloud a 2 1/2 minute shower today and that is it until who knows when!!!!:( The things our loved ones go thru!!!!:(
ANyways I just wanted to let everyone know, so if you are going to visit this weekend be prepared.
"Rain, Rain go away!!!!":blah:

If your men are up for transfer to camp, I heard that the camp busses are going to be buzzing next week. They are trying to get as many people out of there as they can. I heard that it is a much bigger problem with the water and they do not know when they will get it fixed. They DO NOT plan on closing the prison and they said that they had a water problem at a California prison over the summer and they just tuffed it out until they fixed the problem. Yeah, I am still wondering just who tuffed it out?!?!?!?

My boyfriend wrote me a letter about this, and I saw an article on-line about it. The article said they are considering transferring inmates to other locations. I called my boyfriends counselor this morning and she said they have NOT started transferring anyone yet, that would be a 'last resort', but they are trying to get everyone who is eligible off to fire camps ASAP. She said as far as she knows, there will be NO changes for visiting this weekend. I also called the main number and confirmed with another officer that there will still be visiting this weekend. I would suggest that anyone planning on visiting check too, just in case something changes. It is supposed to rain all weekend.

Here's an article I found online not very in detail though
News from the San Joaquin Valley

Associated Press
JAMESTOWN, Calif. - Inmates at the Sierra Conservation Center near Jamestown haven't been allowed to shower since Monday because rain has muddied the water in the reservoir the facility draws from, officials said.
The facility, which holds 4,100 inmates, draws water from Tulloch Reservoir. Recent rains washed a lot of mud into the lake, which clogged up the filters at the treatment plant. If the conditions don't improve, inmates may have to be evacuated, officials said.
All hot water has been turned off, and even mop buckets have been taken away so inmates can't take "bird baths," said Capt. Kenny Calhoun, a spokesman for the prison near Jamestown.
About 90 portable restrooms were brought into the prison Thursday, said Lt. Jim Hurtado, another spokesman. The portables have not been used yet, he said, but "we're anticipating having to go to them."
Calhoun said the prison needs about 600,000 gallons of water a day. They've been getting only half of that this week.
The inmates have been cooperating and eating on paper plates to reduce water use, Calhoun said.
"They've been really compliant, even though they're not allowed to take showers," he said.

I know my husband has called me on this too. I guess they came this morning to finally clean the portable toilets out, they had gotten pretty disgusting. He also said they were starting two hundred men classes to get guys out of there and into camp. He also said if you were there and not eligible for camp they were shipping them elsewhere until the water problem was solved. Good luck to everyone!! I know the quicker mine gets into camp and closer to home I'll get to see him! :)
