View Full Version : Charleston Brig info
JNUVA 01-07-2005, 09:57 AM I asked this in a sub forum, but I didn't know if everyone would see it. There's a chance my fiancee could be moved from the Norfolk Brig where he's been for a month to the Charleston brig for the remainder of his sentence (9 months...7 1/2 with good behavior). I can not find info on the Charleston brig ANYWHERE. Does anyone know the times and days for visitation? I'd be travelling from the DC area and would have to fly, so if he is moved, I would want to make travel arrangements ASAP. Also, how much notice do they give prisioners before they're moved? Do they notify family members or what?
Thanks for the info!
FriscoLady 01-07-2005, 03:43 PM JNUVA,
Welcome to the PTO family, I am glad that you found us and our Military forums,
I have read both of your posts and I hope that I can help.
In my experience with the Brigs, family will not be notified, however, I have been out of the service for a few years and that may have changed, but I doubt it. There will be no advance notice.
In your other post you said your fiancee is Coast Guard, I am retired Coast Guard and live close to the Norfolk Brig, so if there is anything that I can do to help a fellow Coastie, I will be glad to see what I can do.
One suggestion if you cannot find out anything on the Brig in Charleston, I would call the Chaplain at either NOB or at Charleston to get the help you need.
Also, his Commanding Officer or his representative and or the Coast Guard Chaplain in the area of where he is being held should be visiting him. I know that when I was stationed at ISC Portsmouth, I was involved in restarting that program for the Chaplain visitation, however, I do not know if the present Chaplain has continued that practice. You may be able to get some info through them, but it will be difficult since you are not presently married.
I hope you will introduce yourself in our Introduction Forum as well.
Please know that you and your Fiancee are not alone, that all of us at PTO are here for you and will help you get through this time.

honey_77 02-19-2005, 08:52 PM My husband just got to the Charleston brig, they do not notify the family when they move them. My husband was there for 4 days before he got to call. All I know right now is they can get letters, cards, and 10 pictures and they can get books. I think it is 30 days before they can get visitor and he must ask schedule them.
FriscoLady 02-20-2005, 12:42 AM honey 77, as you gain more knowledge of the brig in Charlestown, please feel free to post it in the Military Prison Profile Forum. That way it can help others that come after you.
Thank You,
Patti
