View Full Version : What's going on?
Rusty265 01-07-2005, 12:23 AM This isn't too hot of a forum is it?! :(
Well, I guess that's kind of a good thing...but at the same time that means there are a lot of military families that don't know about PTO yet maybe. I'll try to help spread the word a bit. I'm prior US Army myself, and a former US Marine wife so I know quite a bit about the military, but not too much about the military's brigs. Still..I'm here for support if anyone would like to talk.
Where are ya all???
FriscoLady 01-07-2005, 05:06 PM Rusty,
We are a bit slow here sometimes, but we are here. It is good to see you in the military forums!
Patti
Rusty265 01-07-2005, 07:12 PM Thanks Patti :)
I was just looking forward to corresponding with ya'll over here on this board...and *crickets in the background* Nobody seems to be around other than you and I ;) Haha...come out wherever you are folks :P
FriscoLady 01-07-2005, 11:12 PM Rusty, you remember the old attitude I think a lot of military have - the one that I think really hurts us with the public.
We become a family of our own, simply because we are so far away from our own family and friends, plus what we do for a living is - so - ahh, doggone it - can't come up with the right words. Well, is so, so different from what others do that our talking shop, so to speak, is really kept to ourselves.
However, there have been others who have popped in at times, and today I noticed a new member from the branch of service I was in. So hopefully we can liven this place up some.
Patti
Rusty265 01-09-2005, 06:10 AM True enough, what branch of service were you in? :)
FriscoLady 01-09-2005, 06:41 AM I was in the Coast Guard. Twenty of the best years of my life!
You know, I never have regreted not going for Warrant Officer, but sometimes I think, if I had, I would be retiring this year 05 after thirty years service. Would not have gone to prison, and all that grief would have been sidetracked out of my life.
Then I think, no this was meant to be, gave direction back to my life, and though I did not like the experience, I am grateful for it.
Sometimes you have to face the hardships of life to regain your self worth and dignity.
Plus, then I would not have met the wonderful people here!
Sorry, did not mean to preach! :D
Patti
Rusty265 01-09-2005, 07:09 AM You didn't mean to preach?
Please do. I prefer to listen to people who preach realistically and sound good while doing it. It has been said that everything happens for a reason whether we are that accepting of it or not at the time...oddly enough when the world "crashes" down, things don't always look so bad when looking back. Coastie huh? Well...I guess I can respect you...it'll be hard though. KIDDING!
FriscoLady 01-09-2005, 11:11 AM Hey you know the old joke, we are shallow water sailors, which is a good thing in my case, I can swim but not that well!
Let's keep in touch, I love talking with you.

" Sometimes you have to face the hardships of life to regain your self worth and dignity."
You are such a wonderful lady I cannot imagine that you could lose either.
Besides, that was too much a a price to pay for such carelessness (in the Oscar Wilde sense)!
erinanderson 01-09-2005, 02:42 PM How do we get through all of this? For me, many many episodes of Stargate SG-1 is how I make it through each day. Good news from me, the military has finally seen fit to pay me the 6 months of pay that they promised to pay me to help me transition from a two person income household to a once income household. Now if we can just get the ball rolling on the report of his trial and the clemency, that would be great.
"Why don't we put a little sign at the base of the ramp that says 'Gate travel may be hazardous to your health?'" Yes, in addition to losing your mind, you can get blown up by snake-headed aliens, thrown back in time, or sucked into a black hole. Obviously, some sort of Surgeon General's warning is required!
FriscoLady 01-09-2005, 03:45 PM Erin that is about all you can do, one day at time, one Stargate episode at a time. I honestly think that the loved ones on the outside have it far worse than those in.
I did not do military time, I went to prison after my retirement, yes, it was bad for me. However, my partner had it rougher, trying to care for my parents and get my youngest daughter out of the country to protect her from my ex, trying to earn enough money to hang on to our house.
I have the deepest respect for those who stand by their man or woman and have to bear the full brunt of this time on the outside.
Hang in there Erin, you are a tough individual and a strong woman you will make it and the time will come when he will be home.
God Bless,
Patti

 Sure thing Patti! Likewise! LoL...as for me, I joined the Army back when I knew that the dog paddle was in style. Heck, the doggie paddle will always be in style. In desperate measures I don't think there is anyone who can say they'll break out the champion swimmer moves and truck it to shore. Naaah. I can see people doing the dog paddle when it comes to a "man overboard".

You can do it Erin!
FriscoLady 01-09-2005, 04:00 PM When I first went to boot camp, our DI said on the eve of our first Leave to not let the Navy girls bother us too much, for they have to swim to shore if they fall off the ship, we Coasties just walk on water! LOL!
Honestly, never could figure that trick out, I liked the dog paddle better it got me to the Life Ring faster!

DeNada 01-13-2005, 09:17 PM WELL!! I guess it has been a while since I posted (unusual for me), but with the holidays (thank god that's over), a move to a new house, stressing out over bar approval and waiting on my job to start, there isn't much left at the end of the day. Rusty, welcome to our forum. We do our best to keep up with what's going on and to be as supportive as possible to anyone who needs it (and for some that don't think they do! lol ). My son's appellate brief has been filed and I guess now we just wait for the wheels of justice to grind. I don't expect miracles and even if we do receive a favorable ruling, it won't change the status quo. Either way, with or without the ruling, he's eligible for parole in ten years. It's up to him to make it happen. He wants to put me down as his attorney of record now but I'm not sure how the military would view that. I'm not even sure that I should. I don't think I'm ethically constrained but the emotional toll may be a bit much! But, I could get (almost) contact visits....hmmm. Might be worth it just for a quick hug! lol
