View Full Version : Legal Help
bprincess_8 02-10-2003, 08:59 AM Hi I'm new to the forums and thought this would be a great place for information and support. My baby is doing a life bit. He has several problems from his trial that are reversable errors. The problem is money is so tight we can't afford a good lawyer. I have been looking at legal help for those incarcerated in this state and Michigan doesn't offer anything to help these guys out. Does anyone have any information they would like to share on pro bono or legal aid for prisoners. I look and other states offer tons of help to prisoners but not Michigan, it's very frustrating to say the least. I'm desperate PLEASE HELP if you can. Thank you for you efforts and time.
Carisa 02-12-2003, 02:12 PM Hi. Welcome! I really don't know of anything but if you post in one of the general forums maybe someone could help you.

Welcome to PTO family. I hope that you get the help that you need.
bprincess_8 02-13-2003, 05:51 AM well thank you all fpr your support. Today is a bad day because I see no real hope, without money he'll die in that place and the terrible wrongs will never be righted. You know I was never a person that cared about money as long as the bills got paid and there was a little extra I was happy, I never wanted to be rich. Now I see money is what makes the world go round and it does buy happiness because without it my heart and soul will die in that shit hole along with my baby. Sorry but as I said todays a bad one and I get so down I could cry. Anyways thanks to everyone.
witchlinblue 02-13-2003, 08:23 AM Im sorry your feeling so down and out, just try hard to find the hope, and all my wishes go out for you that you will find it soon. There are lots of people here that are willing to listen when things get bad so you found a home here for sure. I really hope someone can help you out with at least some advice. Hang in there.

If you will go to the legal help forum, softie placed a page full of pro bono's. I hope that helps. Good luck and best wishes.
bprincess_8 02-15-2003, 05:32 PM I seen the pro bono help for michigan thanks. I sent the info to my sweetie. I contacted the innocence project here too and they actually replied and asked for more info to review his case. My god I nearly fell off the chair. I really thought they would blow me off because he wasn't totally innocent of a crime. Well it's a stab but one I will gladly take. Please God let this pan into something Please.
JodyAnnShaw 02-16-2003, 12:25 AM bprincess..... I hope something good comes from the innocence project.
I'll keep you and your sweetie in my thoughts and prayers.

bprincess_8 02-18-2003, 05:58 PM I e-mailed the innocence project and they e-mailed me back. They want more informatuion to review Billy's case. Man keep your fingers crossed that this needle in the haystack works out. I told Billy I needed a brief describtion of the evnts that lead to his incarceration he replies" well they told me to bend over the table and stuck it to me." I know he was kidding but it sorta made me mad because I just want him home and am trying to hard to find a way to get him there. anyway I felt postive that they responded back and hopefully it will pan out. Wish us luck.
Marie 02-18-2003, 07:17 PM The best of luck - I really hope it works out for you....
Keeping you in my thougts

bprincess_8 03-05-2003, 03:47 PM Welcome Michelle, this is a great place alot of really kool people and lots of info here.
As for the pro bono stuff well this state sucks for help. No one wants to help with anything it seems. I get so frustrated. I keep searching one day I will stumple onto something. People just do not realize how cruel this legal system can be until you have a loved one who is caught up in the mess of it all. Anyways thank you so much for your prayers we will definitely need them to fight this demon.
Shades278 03-05-2003, 07:56 PM I agree about the system! It really does suck and I can't really understand why. Hopefully with the new Gov. things might get a little better. Still got my fingers crossed for you.

life2thesequel 03-05-2003, 08:40 PM Pardon my confusion...
Doesn't Michigan have a Direct Appeal, automatic on sentences of 20 years or more?
Did you have a street lawyer for his trial? Did that person file a notice of appeal? Did he not file for appointment of counsel?
Question is,... isn't there some part of the process that is still ongoing? The Innocence Project and other such folks usually hop in after other Direct Appeals have been exhausted, or if a compelling case can be made to dismantle a plea.
Good luck to you in any case.
LilPinkWitch 03-15-2003, 01:32 AM Try Pre-paid legal sevices... Just go to your search and type in Parole
leonsgrl 03-26-2003, 11:04 PM don't know if you still need help, but you can go to legal match.com and post your case and you will be contacted by several attorney's at reasonable prices and ususally they will let you make payments. I posted my husband's appeal case on legal match and the next day I had about 3 different offers from different attorneys. If you don't try you wont know.
