"DREAMS COME TRUE WHEN THEY ARE HELD QUIETLY IN THE HEART" DEEPAK CHOPRA
bella 04-22-2002, 11:32 AM I know that AA sends their big book for $5 to prisoners, if you are interested I'll let you know how to contact them.
torrey 04-22-2002, 12:46 PM Jennifer,
Is he a good reader? I'm asking because self help books are good but can wear you down as fast as they can give you some help. What type of help does he want exactly? I can give more recommendations if I have some type of topic.
If you have read DEEPAK CHOPRA I think you are already in the right section of the book store. LOL
I highly recommend Dr. Phil's "SELF MATTERS"
Sometimes Biographies or auto biographies are very good at 'Self help'. To relate to a real person's trials, hardships, and accomplishments. Sometimes we just need a hero.
Ever heard any one claim they read a book that change thier life or saved thier life? Most of the time it is this type of literature that they are referring to.
A book that changed alot of the ways I see and interpret things is Redfield, James's The Celstine Prophecy. I read it back in 1977 and I still think about it.
jdswifey02 04-22-2002, 03:29 PM Jennifer.... Can you tell us more about his interests?? I do agree with Torrey's suggestion about autobiographies... I really like Dave Pelzer's books.... Have you heard of him?? He was a terribly abused child who then went through foster care until adulthood. He wrote four books total... the first is "A Child Called It" mostly about his abuse, the second "The Lost Boy" is about him going through foster care, the third is about his adult life "A Man Called Dave" and he wrote a fourth, I can't remember the title offhand about his philosophy on life and finding happiness. JD has read all of them and really like them... they are easy reading and he has a rather inspirational story....
bella 04-22-2002, 04:36 PM We really were separated at birth Jd, lol. The fourth book is called Help Yourself. I also think he has recently written another one too. His books are amazing and very hard to put down. Good suggestion
sherri13 04-22-2002, 06:09 PM another idea is to go to barnesandnobles.com and you can search by topic--Ihave sent Ron a lot of books-will have to look up all the names-also sent him a blank journal for him to record his thoughts

Shortie 04-22-2002, 06:43 PM i HAVE SENT ANTHONY SO MANY BOOKS THAT I CAN NOT REMEMBER THEM ALL.. I CAN SUGGEST THIS SITE WHERE YOU CAN ORDER SOME FOR HIM www.mysteryguild.com THEY HAVE ALL KINDS OF BOOKS SO THAT MAY BE A GOOD START.
soraya 04-24-2002, 09:10 AM In Sumter FL you can't send in books, but if they have a library where they can order, you can always give them the ISBN number....by the way, since a lot of the prisons only allow books being send in from a compagnie or bookstore, would they allow books in that you order from the internet?
danielle 04-24-2002, 09:23 AM Melodie Beattie has a lot of good self-help meditation book-
"The Language of Letting Go" as well as other self-help books. I think daily meditation books are a wonderful tool. They're a good way to either get the day started or end the day. AA, NA and just about all 12 Step groups have daily meditation books.
Morrigan 04-24-2002, 11:53 AM Jennifer,
You didn't say if he had a particular interest or not but I have found that "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz is a good one. Actually it's a book that changed my life for the better and I usually carry it with me wherever I go just to read from it.

bella 04-24-2002, 04:51 PM Soraya,
You can send books to Sumter but they must be sent from the publisher or bookstore by US postal service. They will not accept UPS or FEd-x (no pun intended). Usually books online can be sent by USPS and they are accepted in Florida.
jennifer 04-24-2002, 06:06 PM THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT-NOW I HAVE SOME CHOICES TO GO ON. I WAS WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU READ OR SENT "CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE PRISONERS SOUL" ? LET ME KNOW. BYE FOR NOW....JENNIFER
INNOCENCE IS THE ABILITY TO GIVE AND RECIEVE LOVE WITHOUT HOLDING ON-DEEPAK CHOPRA
soraya 04-25-2002, 03:05 AM Thanks for the info!.I'll try to send one, just to see how it goes. The books end up in the library or you can send them to the prisoner?
love muffin 04-25-2002, 09:38 AM Hello,
I'm not sure if this will interest you or him but I sent BC a book titled "The 10 stupid things couples do to mess up their relationship" written by Dr. Laura. Alot of people do not like her but her book is right on the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bella 04-25-2002, 08:25 PM Soraya,
You can send it to the inmate. If you order it make sure that his DC# is correct and his name spelled the way the DOC has it. If either one is wrong, they will return it. Let me know what happens. If you use your own labels, if it works I'd like to try it.
sherri13 04-25-2002, 08:46 PM I SENT CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE PRISONERS SOUL TO RON. I ALSO THINK THE LANGUAGE OF LETTING GO (AS DANIELLE MENTIONED)IS A GREAT BOOK WITH INSIGHTFUL DAILY MEDITATIONS-
Shortie 04-25-2002, 09:13 PM I want to send that to anthony can you tell me where I can get it??
sherri13 04-26-2002, 09:46 AM I order everything off the internet from barnes and nobles and have it sent direct--
bella 04-27-2002, 03:40 PM Sherri,
Does Barnes and Nobles send via postal service or ups?
Daveswife 04-28-2002, 02:41 PM Chicken soup is avail. free to inmates. If they haven't gotten it, have them ask the chaplin.
As far as barnes & noble goes, I've never had trouble. I usually go to the store and pick out the books and have them send them from there. It costs about $4 extra, but cheaper than shipping from most sites.
