I currently pay $45 a month for Road Runner and don't use it nearly enough for it to be worth it. I don't want to go to dial up, but would compromise with DSL or something. Any suggestions. I still need internet to access some of the sites or regularly visit, i.e. PTO, pay my bills, etc. But I don't spend more than 3-5 hours a week here. So $45 is not worth it to me.

Any suggestions that don't include dial up?

Have you called your local cable company? I have digital cable for my television and it is only $20 more a month for internet and it is super fast. I think it goes up to $30 after 6 months, but I figure calling to threaten to cancel will keep it lowered. I used to have DSL as well and it was almost $40 a month in addition to having a land phone line.

I pay $29.95 for DSL through SBC Ameritech. I'm very pleased and have been for the last 3 years I've had it.

My current internet is through my cable company in addition to my digital cable package. I've been thinking about SBC but wanted to make sure there were no tricks before I switched.

I have SBC Yahoo DSL and pay $26.95 a month.well worth it!

I also have cable internet and whenever it is due to increase after the promotional time....... I call to cancel and they extend the introductory price of 19.95...... it's worked for me over a year, worth a try........

A friend of mine goes to WalMart and buys their internet disk. I don't know how it works, but her internet is like 9.95 a month. I think she has to take the disk in everymonth to have it reloaded or something.

I am cheap. I live on here and ignore all calls and use Dial up for $12.95 a mth. through SBC and have never had a problem getting on. I have had it since August and love it very much for the price.

I also use Road Runner for the intro. price of 29.99 or something like that, for 6 months, then it goes up to 49.99. I have it along with my basic cable through Bright House. I am fearing the day my Road Runner intro. offer runs out. My total bill with cable and RR is $81 a month, and after 6 months it will be $112 a month. Do you think if I call them rite at the 6 months and tell them I'm through that I want to cancel, that they would extend my intro. price ?

I just switched my phone company and they told me that I can get a second line for 9.95 and then my dial up is only 9.95........permanantly!! I now have talk america.....and I save 12.00 a month on my bill this way.....and in the end it will actually only cost me 8.00 for the second line and my internet than i am paying now without the 9.95 for the dial up, cuz i got a month free!!!

I'm in the middle of the big switch and the day after I called SBC, my computer was bombarded with viruses.
I just got it back yesterday and my DSL cord isn't long enough, so I'll have to make the switch tomorrow.
The scary thing was that one of my viruses was trying to find a line out to make an outbound call, thank god I didn't have dial up.
I'm all updated and secure now. Crossing my fingers.
