Okay, so the lovely ex wife of my hubby's likes to say "awesome" things about him, she has me talking to my stepdaughter and then she starts talking about how bad he is....it usually doesn't bother me but this last time she made pretty serious accusations...and crazy too!!! From her family thinking he was gay (yeah yeah  ) to him having a porn addiction to him having been a drug dealer. I honestly have never seen any sign of those things and I think that if he had been a drug dealer in the past, he would have been 1) rich 2) have charges pressed by his boss who allegedly found out 3) have his name online under some kind of crime.

My question is: I wrote him a letter and talked a bit about the talk I had with the ex and if any of those were true or just a jealous person trying to plant the doubt seed in my relationship. Can HE get in trouble when the mail room officers read this letter? I'm scared he gets in trouble, but my letter is already sent and I didn't think much of it...I only thought it was better written than talked about when he calls, since they record EVERYTHING!!!!

Thanks

They usually don't take that much time to truly read the letters. There's too much mail to go through for them to do that...especially now around the holidays.

They do not read every word of every letter that is both incoming and outgoing. You (on the outside can write anything as long as it is not taboo subjects), different according to the state you are in.

He can read your letter and then determine if it is in his best interest to respond to something. If in deed something might be incriminating, I am sure he will just not answer that particular question or just ignore it.

Prison officials are not as a rule lawyers, they arent there to decide someones guilt or innocence on outside charges.

With the mail the main things they are interested in, is that nothing is being smuggled in that shouldnt be coming thru the mails, they want to make sure no escape plans are being made and of course ensuring that no criminal activity is taking place thru the mail with an outside individual as a go between for something.

Other than this they are really too busy with other activities of their jobs.

I think that you are fine saying that so and so said this about you. I'm sure they see a lot of that in a prison because someone is always talking about so and so.

I think even if they were to read the letter it wouldnt be a problem. There is no information to back up what she says even if its true. The mailrooms job is to scan for contraband and plans or admission of guilt. If they acted on every rumor then the mail would never get delivered

If you mentioned the gay issue he might get heated. Something similar to this came up once with someone I know and he didn't appreciate it b/c of the people reading the mail. They could xerox your letter, at worst BUT they cannot punish him for something someone else said TO him, if that is what you are asking.

Be careful with the ex. I always try and reread the letters I write to make sure nothing is misinteruppted before I mail them. I agree all the incoming mail cant be read--scanned over but not read.
