I had a great phone call from Adam last night. He's been so depressed with the holiday's coming up that I was lost as to what to even say to him. He asked for envelopes, so I sent him 25 of them. He was happy, he figured he would only get 3 or so from me. I ordered him a pair of shoes and they came this week. But the cards he's been getting from the members here have really been a blessing for him. This is a 21 year old who is looking to spend the rest of his life in a prison, and this is his first Christmas away from his family. Just the fact that there are perfect strangers thinking about him, even if it's for just the few minutes it takes to fill out the card, is really keeping him up this holiday season.
I hope the mood continues at least through the weekend coming up. I know he'll be depressed, but if it can be eased just a little it's great.
There are so many of us with extended family in this season, please don't forget them.
