I am wanting to write to a particular inmate and have no way of finding out the ID#, can you do this even?

All of the Department of Corrections (DOC) sites that I have viewed has their ID numbers on there. Perhaps you can check it out that way.

You do need their ID# to write.Which state is the prisoner in?

If you know what prison he is in, you can call the prison and they will give it to you. That is how I got my man's number before I wrote that first letter.

If the inmate you are looking for is in a State that has an inmate search online then you can get his number with only his name. If he is in a State that doesn't have an online search, depending on the State you can send a request or call.
But in order to mail anything to an inmate you must include their DOC number.
