Hey Marge I've been visiting at CMC (East Facility) since 2000 so I have a lot of info. that will help you out. I know DVI would have been way closer to you but out of all of the CA prisons, CMC is one of the better ones. There are 2 sections of CMC. There's CMC East which houses Level 3 inmates and there's CMC West which houses Level 1's & 2's. I also live in Northern CA, but my man is currently in Ad/Seg so we currently only get a max of 2 hours to visit behind the glass. :( There are a lot of women that live in your area that visit at CMC, but a word of advice is be very very careful who you drive up there with because if they are doing something illegal, then you'll also be held accountable because you're in the same car. Just something to think about.
INFORMATION FOR VISITING AT CMC...
CMC is the half way point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. I live in San Jose and it takes me about 2 1/2 hours to get there. Here's some info. that will help you out.
CMC (805) 547-7900 toll free number for visiting info is 1-800-374 8474. choose 1, then 3 and 1 for info on CMC.
VISITING DAYS/HOURS
Saturday & Sunday - 9:00am to 4:00pm
Holiday hours - 9:00am to 4:00pm (New Years Day, 4th of July, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day)
On Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays you are allowed on the grounds at 7:00am.
DIRECTIONS
From Northern California:
Take 101 North
Take the Morro Bay (Highway 1) Exit towards Santa Rosa St.
Make a right on Santa Rosa St. which will turn into Highway 1
Follow Highway 1 up about 3 miles (pass Cal Poly University) go down the hill and the prison will be on the right hand side at the light.
If you're going to CMC-West Facility, once you enter onto the prison turn left at first street and you will pass Friends Outside on the right hand side.
Sometimes the sign say visiting is closed and has not been changed so if the
gate is open, continue on up to the parking lot. You will follow that street for a short distance, passing through one stop sign and then turn right into the parking lot for CMC-West.
If you're going to CMC-East Facility, once you enter the prison go all the way straight and the 1st 3 rows on your left hand side is the "Visitor's Parking Area." If you are handicap then continue going straight toward the Visiting Gate House and you will see the handicap parking spaces in front of A Quad.
LODGING
Since San Luis Obispo is a tourist city the motels are kind of expensive.
The most reasonable place I have found is Motel 6. It is located about 10
minutes South from the prison. From November to May the rates are $42.99 +
taxes. In the summer the rates go up about $20.00. There are 2 Motel 6 that
are this price and they are both located off of the Los Osos exit. There is Motel 6 South (near Margie's Diner) and Motel 6 North. Make sure to make a reservation before driving up because the rooms get booked very fast, especially since San Luis Obispo is considered a tourist city. I recommend booking a room at least 3 weeks in advance just to make sure you have a place to stay. If you book your room online at www.mote6.com you can get a cheap rate if you use the Click 6 button.

FolgerAdams 12-17-2004, 07:55 PM ty for the info. as far as the kids go do you know if i can use the birth cert. that the hospital gave me? the one that has the feet print on it.
CMC will take the birth cert. from the hospital (w/ the little footprints) as long as the child is under 6 months old. After that they figure you had enough time to request one from the County Clerk / Recorder's Office.
