View Full Version : Increasing Good Time For Federal Prisoners
kintml2u 02-02-2003, 11:32 AM INCREASING GOOD TIME FOR FEDERAL PRISONERS AND OTHER EARLY RELEASE INCENTIVES
2-2-03
I have just recently been made aware that FED-Cure is drafting up some kind of draft legislation for increasing good time along with other early release incentitives. This would be something that would not envolve the parole board as did the parole bill.
While I don't have details right now, I will surely post as I find new things. This is something we all need to come together for and who better to start with then the people it will directly affect! US!
As I find more...I will surely post!
Diane
flygirlaa2 02-02-2003, 12:08 PM Diane, thank you for the info. I don't know how I missed that. I am a member of fedcure also.
kintml2u 02-02-2003, 01:09 PM I believe this is something still "behind the scenes"
Its not nothing on the website that I can see. I have been speaking to the director and this is where I obtained this information.
But like I said...I will keep posting anything I can find out. What you can do is go to fed-cure and send a mesage to them letting them know you are willing to help on this. She is looking for assistance.
kintml2u 02-02-2003, 01:14 PM as I posted to you....I did receive another email...as follows
Increasing Good Time and Early Release Incentives
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends, At the invitation of the Open Society Institute in Washington, DC, a group of federal reform advocates recently started meeting in order to create a "think tank" from which we could generate legislation that would reduce the federal prison population. Meeting weekly in Washington, DC and by teleconference, we are forming working groups to work on sentence reductions, compassionate release, revising the good time credits to include incentives to shorten sentences, halfway house policy legislation, addressing the issue of technical violations for those on parole/probation, and other significant issues that would decrease the time for those in federal prison. In the weeks to come, some of us will be hammering out the final language of the legislation on these issues while others of us will be talking to Congressional Leaders to find support for the introduction of these measures. Right now what we need is for all of you to get ready to write letters, send emails and make phone calls once we get ready to introduce actual legislation. If you've been involved with the BOP for any length of time, you are already familiar with the hurry up and wait scenario. What I will do to keep all of you informed is that I will send to Diane individual updates from both Federal CURE and the task force out of DC along with action requests listing exactly what needs to be done. In the meantime, you can always check the FedCURE discussion group at ***********. That site is restricted to issues discussion of any and all issues affecting federal inmates and their family members. You can email me at edited or fo to fedcure@***********.com and join if you want to receive direct updates. We also post them on our website at www.fedcure.org. Please feel free to contact us if we can be of assistance to you and your loved one who is in prison. Those of us running FedCURE are either former federal inmates or persons having someone they love in federal prison. Now is the time to gain momentum and accomplish systemic change in the BOP and the DOJ. Karen
ontheroadagain 03-14-2003, 09:12 PM Hi Diane, a bit of time has passed since you posted this and I was wondering if there has been any updated info on this matter. My husband was told by another inmate that he heard this being discussed on CNN radio this past week but I couldn't find any info on the web about it. I was wondering if anyone else has heard this. I pray that its true, if anyone knows anything please post the info. Thanks.
kintml2u 03-15-2003, 04:52 AM Hi Terry
I have not heard anything else recently about this. I have only heard of individual states trying to thin out the roll calls of the prisons. It has to start somewhere I always tell myself! Is there anyway you could find out if this was really mentioned on CNN and what brought it up? That would be good. You might want to contact Fed-Cure to see if there is anything you could do to assist their think tanks...they are always looking for more volunteers.
Diane
i guess i past is up too, cause i did not see it, thanks
kintml2u 03-16-2003, 06:23 AM Just received this message from Karen at FED-CURE........
I anticipate that we will have legislation on the Hill for compassionate release revisions and to restore the 6 months halfway house discretion that the BOP had before 12/16/2002. As soon as I know which Senator is the sponsor, I'll let you guys know. If you want to get regular updates sign up for fedcure@***********.com or contact me at director@fedcure.org. Karen
If something comes up....I will surely post it!!

4MyJoe 07-20-2003, 08:17 PM Hi All,
I was just reading the thread and I wanted to tell you all that I've signed the online petition and I also make it a point to print out the petitions and take them with me (and pass them out) during my trips to visit with my Honey. That's the best place to start, with the folks in the same boat as all of us.
Blessings to you!
Ms. Joe
tessa 07-21-2003, 01:38 AM Just signed the petition! Hope it helps!
marcus30 07-21-2003, 12:15 PM Its about time something like this was pushed into legislation. How a murderer can be paroled in the state system and a non-violent drug offender cannot be paroled in the federal system is just a frighteningly retarded idea.
JohnsMom 07-21-2003, 04:19 PM Hi Sam,
Yes it is frightening. Especially frightening is the fact that over 84% of all people in federal facilities are non violent. But if all these people were not being put in the facilities, then the government would not be able to continue building prisons and helping the economy. The system (excuse my French) SUCKS!
Brenda
gracejones 07-21-2003, 06:29 PM Great Idea! Thanks
Jessi
