Ningi - A young Nigerian mother sentenced to death by stoning for having sex outside marriage was acquitted and discharged by an Islamic appeals court on Thursday, court officials said.

The evidence that convicted Daso Adamu, a 25-year-old mother who has been married six times, was faulty, the court ruled.

Judge Suleman Yusuf said the appeals court scrapped the sentence issued by a lower court.

Adamu is the second Nigerian woman in as many months in the state of Bauchi to have had her stoning sentence overturned.

I remember following a similar story a few years back on the stoning of a woman where they delayed her stoning due to the fact that she was pregnant. They then delayed it so she take care of her baby and breastfeed it, all the while the baby was in prison with this mother. They eventually stoned her to death when the baby was around a year old. :( i was really hoping they would overturn her sentence. I could just not imagine having to die in that way. Seems really barbaric.

I really dont know how they can have the law, let alone the conviction!! :( I'm glad to hear that her sentence was overturned. :) What will her sentence be now? Will she have to do life or something?

Thank God - i really pray they end this barbaric practise. It's disgusting that women are treated that way and that their lives mean so little.
