Hi!
I just had to put a post in here! ;)
For those of you who don't know me, my husband (The Wayne) was locked up in December 2001. He was on parole from a 20 year sentence he received in 1990 (attempted auto theft). He'd served approximately 6 years and had been home almost 6 years. His parole was violated (dirty drug screen) and he was shipped to Alabama in March 2002. The following month he received a parole revocation hearing and was given a 3 year set-off (which came as a complete shock to the both of us). So began my journey with Alabama. I live in Mississippi and had never really cared much about the Alabama prison system but within a short time, it consumed my life.
I found PTO a few weeks after my husband left for Kilby and began posting and asking questions. At that time, there was no other people with any ties to Alabama, so I pretty much had to figure things out for myself. Alabama is an entity all its own and the rules of other states didn't seem to apply.
As PTO grew, so did the number of members with ties to Alabama. I learned about NaphCare and prison healthcare, visitation rules and regulations, custody levels and learned how to drive to Kilby then J. O. Davis and then Loxley almost with my eyes closed. I began to try and have him moved to a work release closer to home and never stopped trying to do everything I could for both him and to get him home.
Then, last year, the special dockets started for non-violent offenders. He was granted an early hearing in July of last year and on September 22, 2003 my husband came home.
For the past 14 months I've slacked off a lot on visiting PTO. One reason is that we've been traveling a lot with work and internet access is limited.
But, anyway, when I joined PTO my mission became that if anyone else ever stumbled across this site and wanted to know anything about Alabama, then I would try to help them. But, as the Alabama Family has grown, there's always somebody to answer those questions. I'm just glad that our prison time is over and that I never had to fact it alone. PTO was always there with me. :)
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :p
