Hello guys...

I am doing a project for college and need to have an interview attached with my paper...If any of you guys have been in a supermax facility...between 21 1/2 and 23 hours of lock-down a day...could u please answer some of these questions for me? I am totally against the Supermax idea and first hand accounts would greatly support my paper....

1. Where were you locked up?
2. What reasons were you put into a supermax?
3. How long did you stay in the supermax?
4. What were the conditoins like?
5. Did it have a mental affect on you?
6. Did you experience or see any brutality against you or other prisoners?
7. Did your physical appearance become worse in this type of facilitiy?
8. Were you discriminated against?

I would greatly appreciate any answers...Thank-you for taking you time

I am not able to answer your interview questions, but here is another resource that I used for my paper on the phsychological effects of long term incarceration.

CNN Interactive, Trend Towards Solitary Confinement Worries Experts [January 9, 1998] {online} http://cnn.com/US/9801/09/solitary.confinement/ (http://cnn.com/US/9801/09/solitary.confinement/)

I also used the report from Wisconsin: PSYCHOLOGICAL DEATH ROW: Supermaximum Security Prisons, Sensory Deprivation and Effects of Solitary Confinement. I don't have the link for that anymore. But I do have it saved as a document. If you are interested in reading it, let me know.

Also, do a Google search: Craig Haney (Social scientist Craig Haney exposes the psychologically devastating conditions inside our nation's 'supermax' prisons)

During my 9 yrs. in prison I spent alot of time in lock up for one reason or another. From the hole,a pitch black cell where you were held naked. In the hole, you were fed frozen peas and carrots in a small cup twice a day. There was no light. The cell was 5 ft. x 8 ft. with no bunk,no blanket. You slept on the floor.I did 4 stints in the hole.3 days,5 days, 15 days, 30 days.I,ve also been in D.C. several times. Not as severe as the hole. And I also spent 2 straight yrs. in solitary confinement chargrd with capital murder that was committed by a C.O and an inmate.I wasa paroled from that cell.We were allowed a 3 min. shower once a week.No yard time.I filed writs and then was allowed to visit the law library to prepare my defence.Food was always cold.No T.V ,no books,no music.Cell was 5x8. This was in Raiford Fla. Union correctional.Did it affect me?Others?Of course it did. Many went insane. Many became cutters. Some killed themselves.
