View Full Version : Welcome to the new Africa Prisoner & Family Support & Information Forum(s)
Fed-X 12-07-2004, 12:40 PM It has been a dream for many of us that one day PTO will transend all borders around the world and reach into the physical communities of every nation that have people incarcerated and loved ones on the outside that care, be it family, friends or those without affiliation who care.
Today we open a new forum for the great continent of Africa and all of her Nations. I would like to thank Keltria for the information and feedback she has provided thus far, and for her effort to spear head a campaign to get out the word to those in Africa who have loved ones in prison.
I have high hopes that in the coming months and years the African forum will expand like the other regional forums have in the U.S. and other areas. There is a lot I personally am looking forward to learning about the jails, prisons and judicial systems in Africa. I'm sure there is going to be much that will shock many here as well as things that may make us smile.

Thank You and i hope this forum take off as you wish it to. A job well done!
Keltria 12-07-2004, 01:13 PM I know that this will work - Between JJ and myself we should be able to get enough South African People on here in the next few weeks. I would like to thank in advance the South African Department of Correction for their support they have given me this far, and i know they will be visiting this Website. Also to the media who has offered to do free advertising on our behalf of the Website address. To Fed-X, thanks for including Africa in this. Lets hope we get the response we desire.

So far, it sounds like the prisons that Keltria has been talking to are much more open to allowing prisoner support than the ones here in America. It also sounds like the press will go a bit further in assisting with things relating to helping those who are incarcerted or having to deal with it..
Yup, can't wait to see the results, whether they come fast or slow.
Keltria 12-07-2004, 01:50 PM My research is only just begining to be honest, but i know it i going to be an exciting one. But I have had a positive feedback from the prisons i have spoken to. To my amazement they think this is a good idea, and will let the prisoners know their loved ones have a site to go to. I would just like everyone who reads about our prison sytem to know that SA has only been a democracy for 10 years, and we have a lot of hic-cups in our system that still have to be sorted out, but we are a nation that is trying hard to overcome what apartheid did to us as people and as a nation. Some of the things you may read will be alarming, some statistics you read may leave you at a loss for words. Please remember that having an open mind about Africa is necessary. Give me a few weeks and I will be able to let the people on PTO have most of the information on SA prisons that i can get. The SA people who have loved ones incarcerated do not have much support, and this will be a wonderful way for our country to unite with the world and share our culture with yours.
Regards
Keltria

PTO just keeps getting better and better.
:yay:
This is great news- I am looking forward to learning more!
SAHAR 12-09-2004, 06:25 AM how wonderful! my family/ roots are from NORTH AFRICA, i am keen to gain info/ make contacts with people from MOROCCO, ALGERIA, TUNISIA, LIBYA& EGYPT. generally the living conditions in the prisons are awful , plus life for families/ loved ones is subject to extreme hardship& abject poverty, esp as there is no assistance via welfare or state benefits for dependants etc. i am also keen to liase with people in Muslim countries in Africa, where Sharia Law is in force.
many thanks for this new venture:thumbsup:
ladyarkles 03-14-2005, 06:23 PM Good luck Keltria, it's a big and small world all at the same time!!
