It is a felony for individuals on parole to enter the grounds of a correctional facility in the state of California without prior authorization from the Warden.

In order to visit someone at a prison, after completing your parole, you must write a letter to the Warden to get permission, and include a copy of your CERTIFICATE OF DISCHARGE FROM PAROLE, and a completed visitors application signed by the inmate you wish to visit.

If you have had 1 felony conviction in three years, or 2 in five years, or 3 in ten years your application will be disapproved. If you have had a conviction on the streets, or a CDC-115 in the prison, for trafficking drugs into the facility, you also will be disapproved.

Another nuance to visiting is the visitors application. If it is not completely appropriately, it will be denied. If you have an extensive arrest history, or just a bad memory, it is best to attach a print out of your arrest history to the application. You can get this print out from any local law enforcement agency for free, or a small fee. The CDC cannot require you to provide that document, for it is against the law. However, it is SUGGESTED, that you do this in order to prevent delays in the application process due to omitted or incorrect arrest history.

Appropriate identification for visiting includes drivers license, passport, military id, and consulate cards to name a few.
