I spoke with Adam's mom early this afternoon and she wanted me to come over and eat dinner with her. I don't cook, so when someone does it for me I'm there. The whole time I was there I laughed. This is the first time in years that I have seen her sober, clearheaded, and coherent. I spent 6 hours there and had the best time I've had in years. I forward my home phone to my cell when I'm gone so when the call comes I don't miss it. Well the phone started ringing and I asked her if she wanted to talk if it was Adam. The last time she talked to him she called him a murderer. She said that if it was him she would apoligize and talk to him. It was Kevin and she talked to him anyway and told him she would have a welcome home party for him in August.

Just seeing her this way makes me feel so much better. She's been off the crack for 2 months and looks great. Sunday she even has a date with my roommate which she started picking clothes out for tonight. Hopefully, she will stay sober and be there for her son.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm really happy with this step forward she's making. The only glitch in the system is that she dosen't drive and can't go with me when I see Kevin because of the even/odd number deal.

I am so glad you had a good day! We all need good days sometimes!!! I am also glad that Adams mother is doing well...My mother spent a lot of time fighting a crack addiction and I thank God every day that she is well again...that is a hard thing to watch a loved one go through! Good luck to you and your family!

This has been an on again/off again thing for her. When Adam and his sister were 3 and 4 years old, she called child protective services and told them to come and get the kids because she was going out to party and would rather see them in foster care than herself in jail. I have been watching her do this for 7 years now. Her third and fourth children were taken from her at the hospital when they tested positive for drugs, and the baby (my little godbaby) came 2 months early and was legally drunk at birth as well as full of cocaine. That one stayed out of the system by coming and living with her Auntie Lisa until a family placement could be arranged. She is 4 now and is testing at the 2 year old level.
To see her like this is so different. Plus, she's excited about being asked out to dinner and a movie. The last time she went out to a movie is when I took her 4 years ago. My roommate is very active in AA and has been sober for 25 years, so maybe by keeping company and having someone who will take her someplace other than a crackhouse, she will work hard at being the best mother she can be.
