View Full Version : The Death Penalty
Budwoman 02-13-2002, 08:27 AM In August of 2001, the State of North Carolina executed a man that should have had his sentence comuted to Life in Prison. Due to the fact that so many people on Death Row have been proven inocent by way of DNA tests and other things, I feel with all my heart that the Death Penalty should have a Morotorim at this point. I am a member of Amnesty International and help them to fight this every day. I have seen so much injustice in the system, that I feel very strong about this situation.
What do others feel?

Barrister 03-26-2002, 01:08 AM Donna: I am a proud member of the ACLU and an advocate against the death penalty. There are three (3) cases granted cert for argument before the Supreme Court in the summer session. Two (2) Assocaiate Justices, Sandrs Day Oconner and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, have spoken out concerning the death penalty recently. I understand two (2) other Justices have indirectly made their opinion known concerning their distain for the death penalty. Only one (1) more is required to make a five (5) to four (4) ruling to end the penalty.
I have The Legal PUB in Social Issues on http://www.PalTalk.com . We discuss criminal and constitutional law in that voice forum in real time. I am Barrister on PalTalk, please any one interested, add me to your pal list and Look For The Legal PUB in Social Isses! I need all the assistance I can get, to correct the conservative thinking that seems to prevail in our populace.
Thanks for your time, I look forword to seeing you in The Legal PUB! Perhaps collectively we can make a difference.
karen Bee 03-26-2002, 08:54 AM my first time to this site, I don't know what the lamp of hope project is. I have about 12 death row inmates I write to through Prison Fellowship ministries. I have been doing this for a couple years now trying to add sanity in the US. I guess I believe in humanity, I am against the death penalty just because I really don't trust the system that put them there.
Karen, I am looking for people to write to. Can you give me some help in finding a good place that has lists. Maybe you know of some people that would like a Pen Pal.

Shortie 03-30-2002, 11:10 PM The death penlity is such a harsh thing. In some cases I truly believe they should serve life in prison not get death. I feel it is worse to live with what you did then to let someone make that decision for you. I am a christian woman and I don't believe we as God creation should decide who goes and who stays. Last Time I check THAT WAS HIS JOB.
Shortie....the last time I checked too it was God's job to give and take life.
Amelia 03-31-2002, 02:16 AM I agree tottally!! NO matter what these people are ZGod children first and they are also human beings..we as a people have no right to take another's life..especially with all the stupidity in the system these days!!!
sherri13 03-31-2002, 10:53 PM i agree with the last three posts-no man on earth has the authority to determine whether a human being should live or die, and certainly does not have the right to take his or her life-i do not believe in the death penalty under any circumstances
nighthawk_75253 04-01-2002, 01:10 PM Hey Sherri, you and everyone else has the right idea, but try telling that to the State of Texas.as far as they are concerned they are gods. We,in the fight to rid this country of the death penalty, have our work cut out for us,but if everyone involved is perssistant,we will win.God Bless....................Spencer
