My mother is diabetic and I am currently staying at her place until I find a job, etc., etc.

I have been doing most of the cooking, trying to shy away from anything with sugar.

The problem is... Mother has so many other "food" issues. She must stay away from all pastas (my favorite), and all bleached flour. Everything I like, she doesn't. What she likes, I don't. Plus, she says she has no sence of taste at all anymore.

So, I thought that I would just ask PTO if y'all have any "favorite" diabetic recipes before I hit the "Search" button on the internet!!!

Try the Atkins recipes. They are low carb and pretty much the same as a diabetic diet. They have some great salads and stuff. here is the link... http://atkins.com/food/recipes/index.html

This is one of my favorites, I just love this salad... http://atkins.com/food/recipes/all/Beef_Tenderloin_and_Dijon_Greens.html
Also, I subscribe to a e-newsletter called Heart Center Online, they send out great info along with recipes. Look and see if you can find one for diabetics.

As a diabetic and someone who has a severe reaction to anything that contains refined sugar, I shop the perimeter of the store -- that is, the produce, meat and dairy sections. I use the old "back to basics" cooking method -- everything is made from scratch to insure that I don't get any refined sugar. All those other aisles are poison central for me. I now cook with lots of herbs and spices and it makes a big difference.

By the way, diabetics can have sugar; they just have to make sure they count the carbohydrates into their meal plan.

If anyone wants or needs some diabetic recipies to try please feel free to PM me. Andy is a diabetic and while he has been in I have been making my own little cook book for myself. I am happy to share them with all. I don't have the exchanges or anything like that but at least it is a start.
