My husband (to be) is currently in Ononada County Justice Center and just got sentenced to 1 1/3 state time. Will be moved next week but I don't know where he might be moved to. He has said that he will go to elmira for a short while then get moved elsewhere but don't know where. He is from the Syracuse area.

My friend is in Riverview Correctional facility in Odgensburg NY

My husband is at Wende. I like it there much better than I did Clinton. He was at Clinton-Main for the first 4 years of our marriage. There is no WALL at Wende like at Clinton. It is a much smaller facility--less drama, fewer problems and fewer lockdowns. The visiting rooms at nice, clean and bright. They have a patio off of the visiting room with picnic tables so you can go outside on nice days. The only drawback I have seen so far is that there are only 2 trailers which means you may have to wait a little longer in between visits. There were 5 trailers at Clinton so we have visists about every 6-7 weeks.

My husband is in Gowanda. They say that its one of the worse correctional facilities in new york state. The visiting isn;t to bad. They have a big visiting room with vending machines that arent't to bad. You can also pay to have you picture taken with your man. The co's are okay unless your doing something that you are not suppose to be doing. Be careful what you wear. Nothing to revealing or sexy or they will not let you in. Stay away from underwire bra's. I visit my love in Auburn. The visit is pretty nice, the CO's are okay. I spent my entire visit holding his hand, and kissing him, and the CO sat aat a desk right behind me, he didn't say a word. You have to purchase tickets to take pictures. They have vending machines for food, snacks, and sodas. Bring change because by mid day the change machine was out of change. I just brought a roll of quarters with me. The package drop off wasn't an issue at all, I put everything in a bag, and taped a package slip to it with his number, and left it at the desk, that was all, so it didn't interupt my visit time. They are no joke about the dress code, they will send you away if they see any skin at all, no sleeveless, no v-neck shirts. Bring a littel comsetic case to hold your change, and jewlery since you will have to take them off to get into the visit room, once I got in my love helped me put my jewlery back on. I guess that is all, if anyone has any questions, let me know I will try to help.

My friend has recently transferred from Otisville to Sing Sing. Otisville is much smaller and with a medium security class; I pray and trust that my friend will do well.

I have visited at Livingston and Wyoming. And will soon visit Otisville. Livingston is small and more relaxed--they have the odd/even visit; same as Wyoming.

Wyoming is large and has 3 vistor location, main, overflow, and outside. They take longer to process you in; but usually have the visits to literally 3:30. They call you in in groupd of 5. And you have a longer walk from visitor entry to the facility entry.

My experience says depending on the day and who is there will tell you how comfortable the visit will be.

Jae is in Upstate. I only visit him about every 6 weeks because I live in Florida. He is in the disciplinary side so basically it sucks. The visits are only on the weekends and you can only visit once a week. However the week starts on Sunday so you can visit both days of the same weekend but then you can't come the following weekend both days - crazy right!! No contact visits - so there is the metal grating in between your faces and the metal tables with the dividers all the way down - no contact except for your hands in the opening where you give him food. I kiss him through the metal grating - I have too - I cannot be sitting there that close to him and not kiss him. :p They basically are sitting inside a cage and you sit in front of them on a hard ass bench or a chair. You have to get there before 6AM if you want to beat the buses - I have tried several times and never do, so now I just go around 8:30 when they start processing everyone. The processing - you get a number and fill out your form. Once your form is filled out and handed back to the CO you can then turn in any package or money you have brought. This is good because you can take care of this while you are waiting for them to call your number - so no time wasted like I have seen other people post about other places. In my case - only money, mags & books and once he is level 3 - 1 pair of shorts and 1 pair of sneakers - under $50.00 for the sneakers of course. They start calling numbers at 8:30 and I am usually in by 9:15. He is usually there waiting for me - if not he gets down there like 15 minutes or so later. Only once did I have to wait over an hour for him and that was because there is a female CO who works like every other weekend and she is trouble people - I'm telling you now. She likes to give woman a hard time. The time I had to wait over an hour for him to come down was because I got a Sargeant to come over because she was trying to find any excuse not to let me in because of the shirt I was wearing. Now I have been doing this for over 2 years now - I know what to wear and my top was not sleveless, see through, too short, too low cut, etc etc so I complained. Usually I will keep my mouth shut because I don't want my man or myself to have any problems with the CO's or our visit but this time I knew it was totally unfair. The sarge said my top was fine so she was even more pissed now. So needless to say - she didn't call him for over an hour to come down. Just watch out for her because the more I talked to other woman about her - nobody had anything good to say about her. The vending machines are decent - they have a good assortment of things in them but they sell out quick. I suggest you stock up early - I know my man EATS - so I have to get alot of things. The visit is supposed to go until 3pm but they end it at like 2:40 - 2:45. I have been to quite a few visits here so ask me anything. I have also been to Elmira and Great Meadow (Comstock). If anyone needs info on places to stay or any other info on the visit rooms for any of these places - let me know. I will answer anything. I would write it all here but I feel like I wrote a book already!!:D

I recently went on a visit to Elmira, Elmira is a max prison. I went on a Tuesday and the parking lot was packed, there is handicap parking closer to the entrance. There are a lot of steps to go up to get to the entrance. There is a statue of 2 naked men at the top of the steps, a beautiful statue, maybe had it not been placed outside of a men's max security prison. But that's just my opinion. Inside the registering area is very dirty, there are bathrooms for freshening up, and they are just as dirty. There are lockers, quite a few for the size of the room there in. I forgot to check how much. I didn't use them. I was not asked for my ID to my surprise. I walked through the detector, my hand stamped, and up about 3 more flights of stairs to another gate, where you pass your paper work through a little slot. Then let in a little vestibule, where they check your stamp that you got downstairs. After that you are let in the visiting room. This is also dirty. One guard sits at the desk, assigns you a table, and then you wait. The vending machines are not in the primary visiting area. There are pepsi products. The vending machines, had a very scarce variety of sandwichs, but they had many varieties of chicken wings. This room was also very dirty, I should say filthy. The place seemed in a total disarray. I couldn't find a clean tray to carry the food on, or napkins, not even paper towels. Visiting is from 9-3 every day. The bathrooms upstairs are just as dirty as the ones downstairs. There was one man there that came for his visit and sat waiting for his loved one for an hour, unfortunately, he only got to see him for 10 minute, if that. I would hate to see this place on a weekend. The tables are only spaced a chair apart. Not much breathing space in between tables and other visitors. All the negative things aside, I am just grateful that I got a visit.

Right now, my boyfriend is at reception at the Ulster CF after serving 3 months as Nassau County CC. I'm waiting to find out where he is going next.

My husband is in Elmira reception I think he just got there yesterday.

My boyfriend and my cousin are in Wyoming Correctional Facility. My cousin comes home on Wednesday my boyfriend is not scheduled to come home until 2006

My fiance was in Clinton CF for 4 days then transferred Friday to Downstate Correctional in Fishkill. I have to wait a week before I can see him. We dont know where they are going to send him next. :(

Mine is at Sing Sing, which fortunately is less than an hour from where I live.

my hubby is in Elmira Reception and has been there since august 2 of this year and now just waiting impatiently for him to get moved to his medium facility. It is taking way toooooo long.

Hello all, I am new to this site. To answer the question.. My fiance is in Wallkill correctional facility. This facility isn't but maybe and hour and 1/2 from nyc. Its a med facility. It's ok. as a matter of fact it isn't far from fishkill, greenheaven, and downstate. The bus service i use goes to all of those Facility. ;);)

Has been moved to Lakeview Shock Camp. What part I don't understand is why he was moved there when we were already told he did'nt qualify because of the amount of time he has to serve. We will see.

I have only been to downstate one time. my fiance was there for reception and he was allowed one 5 min call and i believe that was it for 30 days..(he was transferred after about 2 wks) they get free stamps and envelopes-5 letters a week. is your man in reception or doing his bid there??

My husband is incarcerated in New York States system.He's currently awaiting his appeal which for the conveinece of New York State officials can take up to 5 years or more.We are serving a life sentance and so far we've been in Monroe County,Elmira,5 points, and most recently Southport since July of 2004. I say we, because as im sure most of you will agree with me they dont do the time alone ! "We" as well as "Them" are tormented by the their being incarcerated and despite their crimes we love them and miss them the same.Unfortunatly i have a overexateratedly long road ahead of me and wouldnt mind actually telling people that understand where im coming from.Considering people have the tendency to be really inconsiderate because they dont understand and are not at all compationate when it comes down to discussing it and how much it hurts. It seems like the more you hurt the farther new york state moves them away and the conditions which they live in become worse with every move. well thats all for me.

I haven't been to the facility but it's the next town from where I work and close to where I live as well,it's a minimum security prison now and no longer a shock camp.I can tell you it will probably take you 5 hours to drive up here and longer if the weather is bad.I used to live in Rockland county and moved up here a long time ago.The place is in the middle of a farm type / rural area I know there's no where for lodging for at least 40 miles or so.There is a McDonalds within 10 miles of Butler and whenever you decide to visit you could let me know and I'll help you out with easy directions and some weather forecasts.The big Lake Ontario brings on some terrific snows and Butler is in the direct line of fire along with the rest of us up here.Let me know if I can help you with anything.

My man just got accepted to the shock program at Lakeview which is 9 to 10 hours from NY, Bronx. :thumbsup:
