Until 2001 I lived my whole life with or near my family in California. I suppose at times I took that for granted.

Since moving away to Illinois where I knew noone and having to make my own kind of family and friendships it's nice that I have good people around me.

When Sebastian and I started getting serious about our relationship we began a relationship with his mother via 3-way calls. Eventually she and I began calling each other in between to carry messages and just to check in. The most evil thing she ever said to me was, "You know he's my baby and I love him!" YIkessss....

I met her about a month ago for the first time, one of my Sunday dinners. I was a basket case meeting her that first time and called in all my reinforcements. I knew we already liked each other but for some reason that face to face meeting was really getting to me. Of course it turned out just fine, she loved me the food, the house, the whiskey (something else we have in common).

Today she came for dinner unnanounced. People do that at my house on Sundays. It's understood that this is completely acceptable as I always cook enough for an army. We laughed and ate and chatted easily (she is only 3 months older than me). We managed to steal a few moments away from the others to discuss my plans for a surprise birthday party for Sebastian next month.

The best thing came later though when she said to me, "I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves my son." Those words meant so much to me, even though I had suspected as much I am so happy that we are building something so supportive and wonderful together. Sigh....

Happy Sunday,
Patty

You truly are blessed - she sounds like an ideal mother-in-law! (And she is probably thinking you are an ideal daughter-in-law!!!) That's a really nice idea of having people just drop in for dinner on Sundays unannounced :)

DLM ~ You are so right. I love the Sunday dinner tradition and even though today my man told me I should stay in bed (chest cold, ugh) I wouldn't have missed it for the world. It is such a wonderful way to bring family and friends together and it doesn't hurt that I love to cook.

His mom and I like he and I are doin' real good. I am blessed and grateful.

Thanks for stoppin' in....

It is always a relief to know that you are accepted by his parents and family. I'm glad to hear everything is continuing to go great for you both. The next thing you know us ladies here will be seeing pics of you and Sebastians mom partying it up in front of the webcam. lol

That is great news Patty. I'm glad you both hit it of so well. My honey's mom said "thanks for being so nice to my son". I told her that i love him so much it just comes natural. :) When we had dinner together we went out to Pappadeaux. The next meal will more than likely be in H'town with more of his family. I'm kind of anxious, but you know me... I gotsta keep it real. Plus his dad took a shine to me right off so i figure all will be well.

That is great!!!

My fiance's mother makes me crazy sometimes, others she is very cool. On the flip side, my ex-husbands mom is awesome. I love her to death and we still talk every day. So I guess you win some, you lose some! LOL

Glad to hear things are going so well with the fam :)

How nice to have a good relationship with the mother! My husband's parents have been deceased since the mid 70's, but I was blessed with meeting them and becoming part of the family before they passed. My husband's aunts and uncles are good to me, as are most of his cousins. Now his brothers are another thing all together. It is nice to see a good posting on here. Good luck!

It is so good to hear you have a great relationship with his family. I am very close to his mom and his sister. His sister and I are like best friends. We talk at the least 3 times a day and tell each other everything. He doesn't like it but I do.

You sound like you have been blessed with great in laws!!!

Family is important to us. We keep building. It's fantastic. My youngest son is coming to visit from California so he can spend his 18th birthday with us. Building bonds, family ties.

Blessings all around,
Patty
