Hello again!! I'll do my best to answer your questions....
What Is The Visiting Environment Like In Chuckawalla? It is fairly 'laid back' although noisy! There are two large visiting rooms (one for A & B Yard the other for C & D Yard). Typically, it's better to arrive early so as to get a table in a 'prime' area -- meaning, along the back/side (a bit quieter, out of direct view of staff) or if during the summer a seat near one of the fans!!
Are You Allowed To Sit Outside? Yes, there is a large patio area (at least on the A&B Yard visiting). There is seating outside, some tables have umbrellas.
What Is The Situation With Pictures? Pictures cost $2 each and tickets MUST be purchased in the processing office prior to going thru the double gates!!! All picture tickets MUST be taken that very day and then signed off by the dest sgt. prior to leaving the visiting room!!
How Is The Food? Fairly basic for visiting room food although MUCH better selections compared to most prisons I've been to. You can buy your standard pizza, burritos, sandwiches, etc. but also milk, fresh fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese. There is a also a coffee, 2 soda and a candy machine. The machines take bills and change - I found it best to take in $20 in newer $1 dollar bills and the other $10 in quarters.
When You Pass The Check Point(where They Search Your Car) Do You Have To Get A Visiting Pass From The Guards? No. Once you get to the guard shack out front, they will direct you to CVSP and you'll park up near the handicap parking (you'll see the guard tower). Walk just beyond the chain fence (you'll see the staff parking opposite) and the visiting office is there to the right. Just inside the doors, on the counter directly in front of you, you'll find the visitors pass, fill it out and get in Line #1...progress from there!
Good luck!
