I was just reading thru some other threads and saw someone saying something about registering as a VO? VO's really have to do this? I'm not at all protesting it, cuz I do believe that if SO's have to register, then so should VO's. It's only fair and "politically correct" IMO. Anyway, I'm asking cuz my man is a VO. What exactly does this registration mean? How far does it go? What all does it affect? Comparing it to SO's, I know in my (small) city (not sure about anywhere else), if you're a registered SO, it goes as far as putting a sign in your window, your lawn, anywhere that's visible on you're property that says to everyone that you're a registered SO. And of course, anyone would have the option of not renting to you or wanting you in the community, etc. Would this also comply to VO's? Please, any info would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Here in Iowa VO's do not have to register. I don't think they do in most states. It's just SO's which everyone is familiar with. You'd have to check with your local gov't to find out their processes with that. Good Luck!

i have heard that some states are proposing legislation. Personally I am opposed to it. the research done in my state (MN) indicates that the SO registery has not really done anything to protect anyone. First, statistically SO's have the lowest re-offense rate of anyone, but more importantly, if they do re-offend it is almost never in their neighborhood. So what good does it do to know that your neighbor has ben convicted of a crime? I think the registery is a bad thing and I hope it is not extended to include other offenders, wuite frankly, I think it should be eliminated for everyone.
