Some of you have probably noticed the small link located below the donation icon near the bottom of every page titled "Prison Talk Archive".
This links to the static .html content created by the majority of posts/threads in the PTO forums.
The reason for this is so we can finally be properly "spidered" by major search engines such as Google.com .
Search engines for the most part have a real hard time spidering community based web sites for a variety of reasons. What that translates to is hardly any of currently over 85,000 posts don't make it into a search engine for others to find. These posts and threads often contain valuable information that others in prisoner support could use, but cannot locate because they have not yet heard about PTO. Hopefully now they can.
It will probably take a few months for most of our content to become listed in the search engine but I am anxious to see it begin.
In the next week, Google should be spidering us pretty heavily, so you may see an excessive number of "guests" online. Depending on the number of "Spiders" or "Bots" that they send to PTO, you may see the system lagging a little bit.
The chances of that happening are actually slim since we have a pretty powerful server, but I have heard stories of google sending so many of these spiders out that it actually crashed a server due to load. (It's like having 100's of guests/members on at one time. We shouldn't have a problem with our server unless there is over 700 members on at any one time)
Just a little technicle information for those who might be curious. Once spidered, I expect traffic to shoot up quite a bit more at PTO..
David
PS. It usually takes 30 days from the date of "spidering" before the new information/results are listed. So, at the end of February, our rankings and the amount of our content should be updated.
