I have a friend that is very worried about his daughter in Ohio. Last week she was sent to a facility in Youngstown that is Sheltercare facility called Lincoln Place. Has anyone ever heard of that place?

She is 17 3/4 and will be 18 at the end of January. He tells me she has been in trouble with the law since she was 14. Mainly because of drugs and some theft charges. She has 4 other charges before this newest one and had been placed on probation. Since than she has received 5 probation violations. 2 more for not passing her drug tests, 1 for not going to school, and I am not sure what the others were for.

This last charge was for some friends (I use the term loosely) asked her to cash a check for them and she agreed. The checks turnd out to be stolen and she was charged with forgery and receiving stolen property. The child went for her first hearing and the judge asks her why she flunked her drug test and she tells them because her Dad smokes pot too. So the judge takes her out of the fathers home for being unsafe for her and she is sent to this facility...but first had to go to the detentention home until a bed came up at the shelter.

So my question is.......what happens at her next hearing in the middle of December.....will they let her go home? They may still charge her with the checks....although I think they are more concerned with the drugs. Can they keep her even after she is 18?

The father does love his daughter very much and is very ill about the whole situation. How can I help him and is there any good news that I can give him? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Cheerz, I've been thru the wringer with the juvenile court system in OH.. I was a frequent flyer at Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.. There are several Sheltercare facilities in OH, my son was at Parmadale, but I do know some kids in the neighborhood that have been to Lincoln Place.. They can keep juveniles in detention facilities till they're 21.. My oldest son wasn't released till he was 18 1/2, for a F-2.. If they get into more trouble, such as another charge or an escape, they can be transferred to an adult facility.. Your friend's daughter has a few felonies there.. They might sentence her to a year and 6 months of that will probably be in a drug program.. The drug facility for the boys was in Mohican, I'm not sure about the girls.. She won't be able to be released until she completes the drug program.. I hope some of this helps and your friend is lucky to have a friend like you to confide in.. Take care and good luck...

My name is Christy and I live in Muskingum County, I minister to our women and the youth detention here in our town. I am a exdrunk and addict so I have that experiance to relate to the girls and I am now a minister that wants to help others. I'll pray for your friends daughter and if she would like to talk to me, I can write or even visit her. I have a 17 year old daughter and I'm constantly praying for her, she's a good girl, but very passionate about life and lives recklessly. My prayers are with her and her father.
