Does anyone have a bread machine and do they use it regularly? Is it worthwhile buying one or will it end up sitting with the other unused appliances? I love fresh-baked bread but how good are the machines at making it? They sound so easy to use- are they?

I didn't even know such machine ever existed !! There's a bakery just 1 minute away from my house, so I go buy fresh baked bread every day. :)

I had a bread machine for years and I loved it. It finally died and when I can get some extra money I will definately get another one. There is nothing like the smell of bread baking in your home!! I have tried baking bread without the machine but could never get it right!
Another reason why I loved France so much-I didn't even know such machine ever existed !! There's a bakery just 1 minute away from my house, so I go buy fresh baked bread every day. :)

Mrs. Phil- Are they really easy to use (are they basically fool-proof?) Can you remember what brand machine you had?

I have a Magic Chef and I LOVE it. I don't use it as much now that I'm diabetic, but I know I will when Mr. D comes home.
As long as you put the ingredients in the way you are supposed to the bread comes out fine. You can even set it to be extra done if you like it that way. I also use bread mixes a lot.. there's a Jalapeno Bread mix out there thats really GOOOOD!

I don't remember the brand but it was so easy to use. A lot of times I would just buy the bread mixes. The come with the yeast and all you do is follow the directions on the box!
Thanks Mrs.Dragon and Mrs.Phil - I am going to definitely look around for one now. I like the idea that you can get mixes with the yeast in them already -the Jalapeno sounds so good .

I have one, but I have every kitchen gadget known to man. I don't use it very much cause I like my made from scratch bread. But the results are very good and very convenient. I think you would enjoy having one.
I've got one that someone gave me a few years ago as a wedding gift. I love it. I think she got it at Target for around $50. I just buy the bread mixes and you usually just need to add water, it's so quick and easy!
I'm with Phil on this one....
I go to the Bakery/Cafe, have some a bowl of soup, get some homemade bread, and call it an afternoon get-away!!!

I've got one of the first ones ever I think - IT'S OLD! But I still use it now and then and it works fine. I want to get one of the newer ones that you can program to come on at a certain time though. Just think - waking up to the smell of fresh baked bread! It's not fool-proof though - I've had some very small, VERY heavy loaves out of it that just couldn't be eaten! But not many - most of them come out perfect. The jalapeno is the best - and it's so simple to make!
There's a sun dried tomato bread that's real good too, espically tosted!

my mom has a nice one, not sure of the brand but i know its a programable one. you can use mixes or homeade recepies in it. She uses it at least once a month. More around the holidays and when she has a vacay...I know she loves it and the bread IS SOO GOOD. It has different setting so you can do regular breads, sweet breads (like banana ans zuchinni bread) and other things like rolls, cresents, etc. That thing rocks. In fact, maybe i should ask for one for xmas !!!
A nice alternative that is fast is the pre-made beer bread mixes through Tastefully Simple (direct sales, i think u can buy on ebay too), just add a can of beer, or other carbonated juice/drink and voila' fresh bread from the oven,,, damn good too. And inxepensive.
