Hi~ I am new to this forum, and am not completly sure what I am doing yet... so please forgive me, if I post the same thing once or twice.
I am getting married to a man I love to pieces- and to date he has 15 years left on his sentence. My friends, family, society.... can't seem to understand why I would want to marry and wait for someone that long.... Does anyone else have experience with waiting so many years for someone?
Since I am in Ca, we do have the 'family visit' option- every 3 months.... does anyone have any experience with this as well?
Thank you so much,
Take Care,
Michele

I just got married on Saturday and I know and understand how you feel!! It's a level of commitment and closeness! Sonny has 7 years to go but I would have married him if it was 15! I have doubts sometimes if I can do it. And I talk about it to him and I know I can!! Communication is the main thing!! I know I can talk to him about anything! PTO is also a great help! They keep you grounded and are always there when we need them! Feel down, They're there! Feel confused, they're there! Feel happy, They're still there!!! Funny how that works!! Hope you and your Sweetie are very happy together!! And know there are alot of people here that understand!!! Welcome!

Hi Michele and welcome....I too am waiting and have 8 years and 10 months to go....we havent talked about marriage yet , but we are definitley making plans for the future. I tell ya one thing it has already proven to be harder than I thought it would be, but it has also already proven to be more worth it than i thought it would be. Good luck to ya and if you ever need to talk about it feel free to get in touch.

I just wanted to say Thank you for your support already! It feels comforting to know, I am not the only one in this situation and that there are people who can understand and accept my decision . My family and friends think I am insane at the moment... to even think about marry'ng a man in prison- not to menion the 15 years to go.....
Thank you all so much!

Welcome to PTO, you will love it here! You'll find alot of love and support. My fiance has a 6-12 years sentence and i have to admit that I do sometimes sit wonder if I can wait that long. But when I visit him or talk to him on the phone or receive a letter I feel in my heart that he is worth the wait and i know i can. Trust me I know how your feeling, not many people support my decision on waiting for him. We are also planning on getting married while he is in prison. Alot of people tell me they think im nuts or they feel bad for me but my thought is....if they cant accept my choices in life then obviously they cant accept me so screw them. I cant say I have experience with waiting for someone for years as he has only been in 7 months so far. But im sure there is someone here that does. :-)

I am getting married to a man in 2 months that has been locked up for 4 years now and has little under 2 left. If you love someone then do what your heart tells you to do. no one fully understands what you are going through. my family doesnt understand either.

Don't feel to sad, my man's serving 2 life terms+400 years!! I will love him for eternity. N-e-more itz not about "waiting", itz about "love" and that's 4-ever. I wrote U a PM, plz read. By the way, we're going to get married, the decision's been made just this past week....YAY!!! I'm elated! There are no guarantees on anyting, but there is Love~n~Life 1 day @ a time. No one understands my love 4 him either. I tried to find others, no one compares. So talk to me!

Welcome to PTO.

I've been married to my hubby for 2 1/2 years. His first out date is 2005....his max date is 2030.

I will wait...no matter how long it takes. We are as happy as we can be given our situation. Its not an easy road, but you will find that PTO sure makes the pavement a lot smoother!!!

Michele,
I 1st would like to welcome you to our family!! You will find all the support you need here. I too am married and he is just 1 yr in to an 8 year sentence, and he has to do at least 4 before he can even come up before the Parole Board. But we also got married during his last incarceration in 2000, so on 4-14, we will be married for 3 yrs!! My family doesn't really understand why I love him so much, much less why I want to wait for him, or stay married to him. But I love him more than anything and I would wait longer if I had to :) I wish you the best!!

We were just married a month ago and we couldn't be happier. Although he only has a year to go and we talked about waiting, we decided we loved each other, wanted to be with each other forever, so why wait? It feel so right. You do what your hearts tell you and it will be fine. And, as you can see, we are all here together for you.

I am new to this forum also.. Well I have read postings previously but I never registered. After reading your email, I was inspired to do so. My fiance' is also incarcerated. He is currently serving a 40 year sentence in a Florida State Prison. We have been friends for over 10 years, he has been in for 5 years now. This last past year has brought us closer than ever and we plan to marry in July of 2007. I can't wait. I know that the average person would think that this is crazy, just like they think you are. Yet, I know my heart. I know that I have found true love. I know that God has ordained us to be together and that he will provide a way that e can live a happy life together. Now, Florida does not allow conugal visits, so we don't have that to look forward to. Yet, the bond that we have and will continue to build, with God's help, will maintain and strengthen us thru this situation. May God Bless you and yours. May God Bless all of you on this site, that you may have happy and peaceful lives together.

HI Jayhigrade, I support you 100% if that is how you have to do what feels right to you. I am new to this site and I am also trying hard to pass the time until my love gets out. He is just finishing the first year of a 6-12. Hard to deal with at times. Some facilities in NY have family visits but not all offer them. I wish you all the best of luck.
