With the holidays get closer I wondered how the holiday visiting worked at the prison Chris is at. I know that visiting days are assigned by units. I assumed it was because the visiting room was so small compared to the number of inmates.

I emailed the visiting room Sgt. to find out if they have some kind of special schedule for Christmas.

Here was what I got back
We stay with the same schedule in the Visiting Center all year around. So yes, the offenders that are regularly scheduled to visit on Saturday's will be the only offenders that visit.

Most of the larger prisons here in Idaho have scheduled visits by the unit. I think this is very sad for the inmates and the family. There is one large prison here in town that has visits Fri-Mon for everyone and anyone in that prison does get special holiday visits even if the holiday doenst fall on a visiting day. I understand that when the visiting room for the entire prison only has 30 tables there is only so much they can do, but it would sure be nice if they couldnt figure out something that works for everyone. As it stands now visits are up to about 4 hours long. Even if they could start visits earlier and extend them into later in the day with hour slots for everyone. I know that an hour isnt long, but I would be more then happy with an hour on Christmas verses nothing at all

The New Jersey state prisons don't have any visits on holidays. So with Christmas on Saturday imagine how crowded it will be Sunday!

For the unit that Chris is in his visiting days are on Sunday so I imagine that it will be extremly busy that day as well.
