Hi,

My brother was recently assigned to the Grimes Unit from Diagnostic. I am planning to visit him soon. I would like to know what to expect before I travel to Newport, AR. My brother will probably be there until February 2005.

I have not got to go see my man at Grimes. Seeing as how I was denied visitation. Hopefully he can talk the warden into letting me go see him. LOL Sorry that I can not be of more help.

oh no KoolAid, why were u denied? if you don't mind? My visitation was taken away for a year but it was reinstated after a few weeks cuz the disciplinary was dismissed.

Before Micheal and I got together, I got into some trouble. I was put on 5 years of probation. I have been on probation for 3 years in January. My P.O. told me that when I pay off my fines, in Feb., I will be put on unsupervised probation. I am hoping that I get taken off of probation early. And then, I plan to have it taken off of my record as soon as I can. i just miss my baby. I did get to see him when he was in county. That was just a little over a month ago. And we talk on the phone 2-3 times a week. It helps a little, but not getting to see him is driving me crazy.

Right now, they have not credited him with the time that he served before he went to court. (Which was about 3 months) So, he is filling out paperwork to get that time credit. Right now, his PE/TE date is Aug. 12, 2005. If he is credited with the time he served, it should be sometime in May of 2005. Which still seems too far away.

Hi

I drove from North Little Rock to Newport yesterday. It only took an hour to get there. It was a nice trip. The Grimes Unit is near the Newport exit (Exit 83) and was very easy to find. I had my 5-year old with me and we arrived at 10:40 a.m. I did not see many cars so we turned around and went to the McDonalds that was not too far from the prison. We made it back to the Grimes Unit around 11:15 a.m. When we went in, there were a few people waiting. It started getting busy around 11:40 a.m. The guards began to let us go to the visitation area around 11:45. I was very surprised to see my brother in the visitation area waiting when we first walked in! By the way, the guards will allow you to keep your car keys, money (in your pocket or zip lock bag), and your jacket. I had a letter, that my brother's fiancé' wrote, in my pocket so that I could let my brother read it during our visit. The place is very nice! There were about 6 vending machines with snacks and food (like pizzas, burritos, pasta etc.) and 1 drink machine (only use $1 bills in the drink machine because it will eat your change without giving you credit for it and you will not get your money back!) Only take change and $1 bills to your visit. There is 1 microwave. My daughter had a great time playing with the other kids there. She made 2 friends! I had a great visit with my brother. I will be going back soon. I hope this helps.

Hey :-) My boyfriend just got transferred from Tucker to Grimes. I am glad to know that it's nice there at Grimes, because I am nervous about going to a new place. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about visits....like what they will allow...such as holding hands, brief kisses, etc. Any info would help :-) Thanks!!!
