My husband said that a new 65% rule may go into effect soon. Does anyone know anything about it? When is this supposed to happen? What needs to occur for it to go into effect? Who would qualify?

I have contacted government agencies and have been told that this is not in the stages but they did pass for drug offenders that if they go into one of the rehab programs that they can be released 3 months early.. I do not have the details as this does not effect my guy .. I beleive it affects a small percentage of those in now... If I learn anything new I will share .. Aimee1 11-11-2004, 07:16 PM until january 1, 1994, the law was 65%. this is referred to as 'old code'. as of jan 1 1994, they changed it to 85% and it has been that way ever since. there have been rumors that they are changing it back, ever since it was changed. the truth is that az has NEVER considered changing it back, not as far as actually considering new legislation. people always say that they are considering it, but the truth is that while it makes complete sense, as it would majorly alleviate the overcrowding problems, but az has too much pride to actually do anything *nice* for prisoners! we all know that. but never stop praying, because nothing is impossible!! :) boobbetrap 11-12-2004, 09:19 PM yes I know for a fact that it is not that away they have been saying that for years and no where is there any such law changing or in the works to be changed. sorry I was hoping for the same thing myself but now my man only has two and a half months left. yep hee........,.but maybe someday they will pull there heads out of there you know whats and go back to the 65% that woukld sure help with the over crowding problem and if they didn't want to do it for everybody they could at least do it for the lower crimes, thieft,drugs,ect...but that makes to much since for this state to do anything for anybody in prison. they could give a --- if you know what I mean. I've been all through these laws and they suck. plain and simple. drug for us that have loved ones in prison. keep the faith... ebontortuga23 11-16-2004, 05:01 PM Thanks for the info. The 65% thing is circulating around my husband's prison. I will pass this on. twinkletwinkle 11-21-2004, 03:47 PM I spoke to my boyfriend's attorney about this rumor. He stated that any such change in the law would have to go through the State Legislature and be signed into effect by the Govenor. Those of us who have been affected by Arizona's conservative legal system know this sure won't happen any time soon. Sorry to snuff out such a hopeful rumor.
